PARIS MOTOR SHOW: If Given The Choice, Would YOU Want A Manual SUV?

PARIS MOTOR SHOW: If Given The Choice, Would YOU Want A Manual SUV?
Although this may seem to be a pretty silly question, it is a good one in my humble opinion. I am sure some of you will say that's not the case but that doesn't matter as I have the power of the keyboard.

Anyhow, being that the Paris Motor Show is in Europe, we weren't too phased out to see that the all-new Land Rover Discovery Sport was shown in two forms, one being equipped with a six-speed manual.

One of the vehicles was painted what I'll consider a cashmere color with a sand interior. A classy combination for what was clearly a vehicle intended to give off a luxurious vibe.

The other Discovery Sport on display was a bit more interesting. That's because it was sporting a BRIGHT orange paint job, black wheels and, overall, just looked more badass. As you'd expect, this was the vehicle equipped with a standard transmission.

While we know that there is a systemic departure away from offering ANY vehicle with a manual transmission, we're a bit curious if you'd like to have one in an SUV before they're completely banished, which we're sure will happen in the very near term.

One of my most fun experiences behind the wheel was driving a manual Jeep Wrangler. There was something about it that just seemed SO cool, even though the transmission looked as though it was from a schoolbus and shook violently over bumps.

Yes. Yes. Yes. A manual with AWD in the snow is a beautiful thing. My first car was a manual SUV. If there was a good midsize SUV with a manual in the US, I would have it. But alas, I will settle for an auto. Luckily, my other two cars have a manual.

Ummm a manual AWD .. in the snow... because an auto AWD Land Rover isn't enough? I mean if the manual makes the difference then you need to question your life choices because you've somehow ended up on Hoth. :-P

#Fact if the GLA, Murano, Tiguan/Macan/Q3, Ford Edge/Lincoln MKC, X4, ZDX, Mazda CX-5, Lexus NX, or even gmc terrain came TO USA with the 6 speed manual AND sunroof/panoramic sunroof WE would BUY IT ASAP!

Nope, i don't think so. A manual in a high performance sports car, hell yes, but in an suv, no way. Manual transmissions no longer have any advantage over these modern slush boxes, other than, maybe, fun to drive. Not worth it in an suv.

A manual with a clutch offers just that extra bit of control that can make a big difference when off roading... So yes please offer a manual in at least the most off road worthy versions.
