Lamborghini's Boss Says "NO" To The Asterion Seeing The Light Of Day, BUT Reveals Other Interesting Tidbits

Lamborghini's Boss Says
When I think back to the 2014 Paris Motor Show, there are a few cars that really stunned. One of them was the Lamborghini Asterion hybrid-powered concept.

Boasting over 900 horsepower, a brilliant blue paint job and looks to kill, it was a particularly noteworthy debut. There's just one BIG problem. It won't ever see the light of day in mass production.

That's not just a guess, either. That's according to Lamborghini's CEO, Stephan Winkelmann.

According to WInkelmann the Asterion would only be built if someone wanted a one-off. But, all of the effort put into the concept may not be a complete loss. That's because he noted that some elements of the hybrid Asterion could find their way into the upcoming Lamborghini sport-utility vehicle, seen as the Urus.

In addition to that, WInkelmann noted that the design received a lot of positive feedback and that "we [Lamborghini] want one [a GT car]."

Time will tell if we'll ever see one but as the brand looks to expand it certainly doesn't seem out of the realm of possibility given the LOVE the Asterion received in the city of lights.

...As drawn as we are to this idea of a stately and immensely powerful hybrid, capable of going 30 miles on battery power alone and cruising the Autostrade at top speeds, Winkelmann doesn’t see it happening. “I strongly believe that this is not a car that will be in production and we will not do it,” he said. Though he did suggest that elements of the hybrid technology could find its way into Lamborghini’s potential third model, an SUV, where, as he said, it would be “easier in terms of packaging–the extra weight percentage-wise in a vehicle like that is less relevant than on a light car like the super sports cars..."

This guy must be a former GM employee. I don't remember many other companies creating fabulous cars that excite, benchmark, define and that will sell, then never producing them, except for GM...

The front end of this car is hideous and even though it has a better overall shape, the Estoque still looks a lot better.
