Porsche CEO Says Next Gen Panamera Won't Be As Much Of An Ugly Duckling
Many Porsche loyalists were outraged at the idea of a four-door Porsche luxury sedan when the Porsche Panamera was introduced for the 2010 model year, and the fact that the Porsche Panamera had such a polarizing design only added fuel to the fire. Porsche CEO Matthias Muller now admits that the car suffered from design “mistakes” that will be corrected when the car’s replacement debuts next year.

“We will do it better,” Muller told Australia's CarAdvice at this year’s Paris auto show. “For example, the design could be better as well as the interior.”

I have no reason to disbelieve him. Porsches evolve, after all. It is completely reasonable to expect that, indeed, it will only be 99.4% as ugly as the current version.

Personally, I like it. And I've seen it in person.

The only problem with the Panamera, besides the price which is another discussion, is the rear.

They will probably move the cabin back by a inch or two and make the rear less bulbous. Doing this keep the balance about the same, keep the overall "Porsche" shape and fix the rear.

They'll probably either tuck the rear in more or give it a RS7 type rear deck.

The Panamera isn't pretty because Porsche is a slave to its 911 stying theme. Memo to Porsche "Everything you make doesn't have to look like a version of the 911".

Who knows, the next generation Panamera may resemble the Sport Turismo concept, which is a much better looking car than the current Pana. However, let's face it, the Posrsche Panamera is probably the best handling large sedan out there. If they can fix the rear so that it doesn't resemble a cartoon caricature they will be on their way to making a very desirable sedan.
