Rolls Royce May Shelve SUV If It Can't Look Like A Rolls

Rolls-Royce continues to work on proposals for an SUV but has still not signed off the project.

“We’re looking seriously into it,” said the BMW Group board member for Rolls-Royce, Peter Schwarzenbauer.

“Fifty per cent of cars sold around the world are now SUVs,” he added. “But there’s no decision yet. If we’re not totally convinced, we’re not going to do it. It’s got to look like a Rolls-Royce.”

Schwarzenbauer added that the design proposals have got closer, but they’re not there at the moment.

The Rolls face looks like a Peterbilt so making a Rolls Silver Behemoth look like Rolls will be easy because they all look like trucks.

It will be interesting to see RR offer an SUV, but do they really need to make one? I think that someone with deep pockets will not refrain from buying a RR because there is no SUV model. RR is regarded as a symbol of wealth and success, and with the current line it combines that with loads of luxury, technology, power, and classic design. They may focus more in making their cars more efficient and environment friendly, what about introducing a hybrid RR!

Can't really see a successful hybrid RR. Their vehicles are already heavy & then adding heavy batteries makes the entire package even heavier. They can do it, but it probably won't practically useful. I would imagine that RR would have benefited from the GM 2-mode hybrid transmission & a maybe some level of cylinder deactivation.

Efficiency & environmentally friendly aspects probably are the least desirable aspects of any RR. They will make an SUV & there will be customers waiting for it when its offered. Just like GM makes a ridiculous profit for each large luxury SUV they sell - they'll do fine. They just don't want to be laughed at for making a comical design.
