HAPPY 40th BIRTHDAY, COROLLA!!!

The first generation Corolla was introduced in Japan in October 1966. Now, 40 years on, the Corolla is built in 16 different countries, a barometer of the global expansion of Toyota as much as the popularity of the model itself.

In 2005 alone, 1.36 million Corollas were produced in 16 countries/regions* and by the end of June this year, cumulative worldwide production reached 31.60 million units. That represents more than 2,160 cars every day – 90.1 cars per hour, every hour – for 40 years."

Toyota has definantly come a long way with the Corolla. My brother has one and for the price you pay, they are very nice cars.

Ok, ok!
It's just....a small bare-bones compact car with 126 hp that I'd be embarassed to be seen in.
The Mustang, on the other hand, is a 300 hp rwd muscle car that is actually cool.
The Corolla just deserves respect because it's been around forever.

But hey don't discount the Corolla yet, the XRS is used by Lotus!

Yes, I should have made myself clear that I was talking about the GT....yes, the V6 has 210, the GT500 has 500, and the Shelby GT has 325.....

But the Mustang is a sports car, the Corolla is a compact sedan. They aren't in the same class so how can you compare their engines. It's like comparing a Daewoo to a Bugatti. They're no where near the same vehicle.

Yes the Corolla isn't in the same league as Bugatti, however my point was that the XRS shared the same engine with Lotus.

in the early 1990s, a new civic was introduced that in profile, looked like a mini Mercedes.

in 2003, the current generation corolla was introduced. in profile, it too looks quite upscale. (as opposed to the cobalt and neon, the C-pillar is more "adult" oriented, suggesting luxury rather than sportiness.)

if you squint a little, the corolla even looks like a mini Lexus. and of course, it has that bulletproof toyota reliabillity.

its success is well deserved.
