GM Tells Workers That Profit Sharing Checks Will Take A Hit Because Of Recalls -How Is That Going To Go Over?

General Motors' hourly workers will get smaller profit sharing checks next year, CEO Mary Barra said today, just as the automaker prepares to head into contract talks with the UAW.

Barra said the charges the automaker has taken to cover recall costs will cut into the profit sharing checks of the company's workers.

GM has recorded more than $2.5 billion so far this year in costs related to the recall of cars with potentially defective ignition switches and other recalls.

(Sigh) You just can't please some people. What some workers want is more money, while not contributing any more value, and not assuming any risks. "Profit sharing" means you share in the profits, if and when they exist. It's not a permanent pay increase.

Should we ask them to also pay us back for our bailout of their failed company? Or is this a bad time?

(and to all fools who think they DID pay us back, check again.)

This is basically why the U.S. is a failed state. Always wish they earned more money, when practically all they produce is garbage.

Now we know why the U.S. can never be like a European country.

You shouldn't get shite when you built junk so it serves them right. Why the hell would you reward employees that build junk over and over?

After reading the comments, it seems like the general thought process here is that the workers, not 1)the designers that probably suggest a certain durable part to function properly, or 2) the accountants that are all about buying the part that cost 2.86 less but will more than likely fail, but the workers that put it all together as specified by the engineers?

Yes let's lump them all together and flog them all!
