SPIED: This Is NOT A Range Rover Evoque, A Jaguar ACTUALLY Is Lurking Beneath
These days the legendary British marque known for its leaping cat, Jaguar, is hurting. Honestly, we're a bit concerned how the company is paying its bills with cars like the XJ and XF not selling in droves like they use to sell the older XJ and S-Type.

Right now the F-Type is the company's breadwinner, which is surprising as the two seater market is not particularly large at all. Perhaps the all-new XE can help stop the bleeding? One thing's for sure, it needs a sport-utility vehicle bad.

So we're awaiting the arrival of the C-X17 in production form. As of now we've seen the vehicle undergoing testing in an abomination of parts that made it look like a jacked up XF. Now it seems to be taking after its Jaguar Land Rover sibling, the Range Rover Evoque.

BUT, if you look closely you'll make out the Jaguar grille hiding beneath the body and camouflage. According to the Auto Express reader who snapped the image, the vehicle grows its footprint to help it slot in between the likes of the Evoque and Range Rover Sport.

...It looks like a disguised Range Rover Evoque, but like the previous sighting of the Jaguar SUV winter testing in March this year, its nose resembles C-X17 SUV concept - hinting at Jaguar branding rather than Land Rover.

The image also shows an extended wheelbase and slightly bigger track than the Evoque, as well as slightly longer front and rear overhangs, which tie in with the concept car's size and shape...

Jaguar needs to do 3 things: (1) build an SUV, (2) replace the ugly XJ with the sublime Bertone B99, and (3) fire Callum.

The XE has a base price $5K too high given its mission to guy into the market and it is as exciting as a 10 year old Camry to look at.

Without Land Rover's profits, Jaguar would be dead.

Oh and working on reliability would be a good thing...

What I love is the idea that JLR keeps promulgating that this is not based on any Land Rover but instead on some magical architecture ushered in by the XE. That would be beyond stupid. The Jaguar SUV should be to a Land Rover what the BMW X6 is to the X5. Take the Evoque, throw on a feline 4 door coupe body and call it a day. Just like the first Cadillac SRX was compromised because it was a CTS on tip toes, so will the Jaguar SUV if it's derived from the XE sedan.

The first X5 was a low-risk gamble because it was a 5 Series wagon on tip toes, but BMW moved beyond that for generation 2.
