OH SNAP! Lexus Cancels Japanese RC F Media Event For Lack Of Interest
Well, this is embarrassing. For Toyota Motor Corp. as well as Japan’s so-called automotive press corps.

Toyota notified journalists last week that a long-scheduled new-car test-drive event was scrubbed -- for lack of interest.

And it was not just for any new car. The event was supposed to showcase the new Lexus RC sports coupe, the lineup’s new halo car in a post-LFA world and definitely its best-looking one.

Also on hand: the RC F high-performance version.

The drive, which was to be held Friday in Yokohama just south of Tokyo, “has been canceled due to insufficient attendance,” Toyota said in an apologetic email to non-Japanese media based in Japan.

just saw the rc 350 AWD on the road and the back end looks very off. There is no flow to it. not a very sharp car at all. This one was silver

"The Lexus RC: Where sharp angles and round surfaces meet"... terrible.

Unfortunately, the Japanese also prefer the European luxury cars in general just like anyone in the world, and I am to be honest, not really surprised by this.

Nice to know that wealthy Japanese buyers are car bigots and cannot see how epic the RCF is.

I was actually looking at some video that shows what the Japanese celebrities drive in general.

....not a single person that drive a Lexus. I saw some Mitsubishi though.

But yes, they also prefer Mercedes and BMW in general.

Actually the press over there should be ashamed.

If this was a hello kitty self driving micro van they would have been all over it. This probably is the first credible challenger to the Germans in over a decade and they aren't even interested.

They say you have to compete on the world stage yet when something is released that move towards that goal they don't care.

009: As much as a I agree with your assessment of Japanese infatuation with the Hello Kitty motif, your comparison to German marques is off the mark. While this car may have good numbers, German auto makers don't have the Fast and Furious fan in mind. This Lex screams for a Tuner Kidz audience with its garish color, customized-in-Tony's-garage interior, and awkward body styling. It looks like a teenage kid's dream (sport of), but not something that would turn a Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, or Audi driver's head in a good way.

Besides, I think the Japanese press has had it's fill of yet another weird looking, angular, Asian vehicle, so this one didn't pique their interests either.

Did you actually read the article? It seemed more like about the "world press", not just the ones in Japan.

There are some design areas I like about it. The overall silhouette is decent enough. I really like the interior. I think it's interesting and welcome break from the Germanic ergonomics. The engine sounds great and it's great that it's naturally aspirated. Unfortunately it's an also ran for the following reasons. The front and rear ends of this car are just plain ugly. And this thing simply weighs too much. It's time for some light weight aluminum panels and some sprinkling of carbon fiber. It's not as if Toyota cannot afford it. It's whether they choose to do it. It's 400 LBS away from being a serious player. The only reason you would by this over an M4 would be it's N/A engine. other than that I can't see buying his thing.

Between the spindle grille, long rear end, and convex/concave creases the symmetry is all wrong. It seems Lexus is trying too hard. A luxury coupe like the Italian designed, initial SC would look a lot cleaner. The RC F reminds me of the last SC. Confused.

The story is not true. Just the last afternoon driving cancelled, because some economy journalist cancelled their attendance in the last minute.
Typical softy journalists missleading.

keep in mind i had an is-f and got rid of it after a year to get back into an M3. i wasnt crazy about the is-f but still thought it was a good car.
