European Lexus Boss Vaguely Promises New LS Will Be Emotional - What Should They Change To Get With The Program?

The next-generation Lexus LS will remain the company’s flagship but become “more emotional”, according to the company’s European boss Alain Uyttenhoven.

Speaking to Autocar, Uyttenhoven said: “The LS will remain the pinnacle of the range and have the highest price point.”

He also denied rumours that the luxury saloon was going to adopt a Porsche Panamera-style liftback: “You have to understand how our customers use these cars. In the US if they want to carry things they also have a pick-up and in China most of them are driven, while they sit in the back.”

They can start by ditching the "cow-catcher" grill. Also - they should find a way to do a hybrid version that gets fantastic mileage - like a Toyota versoin of the Volt. Yes, such a car will be slow - they should compete head to head with Tesla and do a mild-hybrid electric.

Get rid of the ugly face. Embrace BMW level performance. Come to market 15% below a comparably priced S Class.

For starters they need to ditch the bullshit bait-and-switch in the design. Either make the whole car sporty and aggressive looking, or make the whole thing a luxury cruise liner. Don't give me that monster air intake in the front and then leave the rest looking as bland as possible. Toyota suffers from it like crazy but Lexus is almost as bad.

When Lex vows the new LS will be more "emotional," let's hope those emotions aren't along the lines of disappointment, disgust, revulsion, etc.

Stop with the whole 'even though it's a barge, it should handle like a sports car' promotion. Even BMW 7 series buyers aren't convinced of that BS. The body could certainly use some refinement, but I'd be more interested in an AWD behemoth, whose interior was cladded in actual wood grain material, purposefully designed/bolstered sport seats, a stiff suspension, and an intuitive instrument layout.

Porsche Panamera only less busy.
