If Cadillac Decided To Spawn A CTS CUV To Take On The 5 Series GT - Who Would Buy It?
Fear not people, this is (probably) NOT going into production. But then again, a few years ago, who in their right mind would have thought BMW would be capable of inflicting the clunky 5 Series GT on an unsuspecting public. So who knows… Cadillac in their eagerness to compete with all things German, might at some point decide they will indeed create something to try and out-hideous the awfulness of the 5 Series GT.

Who's buying the 5 series GT. I think I've seen 2 in the last 2 years.

Long before doing something like this Cadillac needs something smaller than the Escalade and larger than the current SRX to compete with Mercedes ML, BMW X5, and Audi Q7/Q5, Jeep GC Sumiit. There is a hole in their line up where the original SRX slotted.

agreed. Seems like Cadillac/GM has been resisting the urge to add more vehicles in the Caddy lineup to better compete with what other luxury brands have been suxxessfully (or at least trying to) selling for s while now.

Not only are the luxury brands competitors, but many upscale/premium models enter the foray as well. Many consumers will shun luxury & just purchase a loaded version of the mainstream equivalent. I don't want the huge Escalade or the smaller SRX, but there's really nothing in the middle offered by Cadillac.

GM (Caddy) announced today that Cadillac sales are suffering. GM has LAID OFF workers at the Lansing Cadillac plant.

A CTS coupesedan (CT5?) to go between the CT6 and the CT4 (CTS's new name?) would be the better move.

Let's not make sh*t up where it doesn't exist. BMW has long refused to acknowledge the commonly used SUV and CUV monikers; especially CUV. It's either an SAV or it 'combines the utility of an SAV with the usefulness of a wagon' as they like to claim.

The 5 GT just doesn't hit the mark. I love the car, but it's no CUV. I test drove one, and it's a massive car. I expected an X6 feel to it, but it's nothing close. It had more of a Toyota Avalon feel. Huge interior like a 7 series, and a ton of cargo room. The standard seats feel like they're made for people with wide, fat backs; very flat and uncomfortable. Nevermind the exterior, which is ugly as sh*t. The car also suffers from the dreaded v8 rear wheel premature wear on the staggered wheel setup, meaning your replacing the tires every 20k miles.

The 3 GT is equally pointless, but if it weren't for the mostly useless X4, I could see the 3 GT making sense. I have to admit though, the 3 GT actually looks good in person unlike the 5 GT; I still wouldn't buy one unless there was some incredible deal that I couldn't pass up.

5GT's may not be selling but I love mine. Its built on a 7 series chassis, has a huge cabin particularly back seat leg room, is
versatile with back seats folded and hatch, sits higher than a sedan but lower than an SUV for ease of entry/exit without giving up commanding view of the road, out handles an SUV and is a quality product. Sure its not pretty but how many BMW's are these days. Live with it for a year and it will win you over.

I know a guy who owns a 5 GT, and he loves it. He also is kind of a socially inept boob with no taste, so I figure it's the perfect vehicle for him.
