I have heard nothing but horrible stories about the Passat and the VW lineup for that matter.

Nothing bad about my '14 Passat, or my son-in-law's 09 Jetta, or my daughter's 07 Beetle, or my other daughter's 10 Routan (yeah, I know it's a Chrysler). Just because you hear horror stories doesn't translate into everything is terrible.

There's always one paid VW blogger out there that poses as an average Joe who has perfectly reliable VWs as if that refutes the THOUSANDS who are less than thrilled with the number of times their VWs are in the shop under warranty and livid about how much the repairs cost outside of warranty.

What, no snarky remark about how Consumer Report isn't qualified to test cars??? I'll take their test result over Car & Driver any day.

The Passat 1.8T has been out like 3 minutes and it's 100% reliable? NOT. The Passat is a reliability crap storm with probably double the unscheduled warranty repairs of a Camry, Accord, Fusion, Sonata, or Optima.

Ummm, let's see . . . could it be that they are all unreliable?

The reason is very simple. I am not really sure why, but I have had my Escalade and a GMC, but I don't really remember them being that unreliable. And I think they usually get good reliability ratings in general.

However, the U.S. seriously has issues making small cars or anything below 50k, they just don't know how to make a reliable car, unless it is something like a full-size.

And practically the American cars are some of the most accessible cars in the world (As they are as cheap as trash), so basically they get compared with other alternatives like the Japanese and Korean.

And really, there really is no comparison. Japanese just win.

But when it comes to full-size SUVs, I would still much rather drive an Escalade or a Yukon than a Lexus LX.

MDarringer, who is in the car business, must be still upset that VW, at one time, didn't blow enough smoke up his ass. While some aspects of the US VW selection don't thrill me, I can speak to the fact that in my extended family there are 6 VW's from 2010-2015.They have proven themselves as reliable and entertaining transportation.
