Volkswagen Confirms 400HP Golf Will Be Produced - Should They Bring It Stateside?

Hot hatch fans owe a lot to the Volkswagen Golf, whether they want to admit it or not. It was the GTI which first launched the niche, and the more recent Golf R has seen to it that the stakes stay high. Now VW has confirmed it will turn out a production version of the Golf R400 concept: a 400 horsepower, AWD red hot hatch. Car magazine has cited unnamed sources as saying production will begin next year.

- comes to with a < $39,000
- driver can turn off all "nannies"; i.e. stability AND traction control
- should come in < $37,000

Not sure I concur with your price limit. Compared to other cars with similar performance $40-50k seems acceptable by many buyers. If I were in the market for such a car, a price north or $40k wouldn't be an immediate show stopper. Would depend heavily on equipment levels.

The price will be STUPID. The reliability will be a turd in a toilet. It will look like a dowdy old Golf.

An AWD Jetta R for $35K loaded to the gills would be brilliant.

Knowing VW this will be a $60K product given that a normal GTI can easily top $40K.

Again, you should do your homework before spouting off. A GTI fully loaded with every factory option and destination charges would be $35,500. That is easily not $40k.

I would seriously consider it...as I am the R version. Needs to have all key choices (2 + 4 door; DSG and stick) available please.
