#LAAUTOSHOW: BEHIND The Wheel Of Cadillac's Latest High-Performance Takedown Machine, The ATS-V — Is Its INTERIOR Doing It For YOU?
OK, so in the last thread I went over the all-new Cadillac ATS-V. If there's one vehicle that has made quite a bit of noise so far, it's been the Caddy. With the performance it's boasting, it's pretty hard not to notice it.

In my humble opinion, it also happens to be a decent looking from the outside. But, what about its interior?

Well, predictably, it receives a pair of racing-inspired Recaro seats and large swaths of Alcantara. This shouldn't come as much of a surprise given this was the same formula as the soon-to-be-replaced CTS-V. Hey, it worked there.

Although rear seat space looks quite tight, what do YOU think about the ATS-V's interior space, folks? Is it enough to earn your hard earned dollars or are you left leaving more to be desired from the likes of BMW's M3/M4 or Mercedes-AMG's C63?

An excerpt from Cadillac's press release follows:

...
Performance-focused cabin

The aura of track-inspired precision carries over to the interior, where the design and relationship of key components are aimed squarely at performance-driving ergonomics.

“With the performance the new ATS-V is capable of delivering, the interior needs to be as functional as the other vehicles systems,” said Smith. “All of the contact points – the steering wheel, seats, shifter and pedals – are designed to make performance driving experiences direct and intuitive.”

New, available 16-way-adjustable RECARO performance front seats are the lynchpins for the driving experience, with aggressive, adjustable bolsters that help hold the driver and front passenger in place during high-load cornering. They’ve also got a luxury-performance feel, trimmed in Mulan leather with sueded microfiber inserts and seatbacks.

The rest of the interior features Cadillac’s handcrafted cut-and-sew elements, with decorative stitching and authentic materials, including carbon fiber. Three interior color combinations are offered: Jet Black, Jet Black with Saffron accents and Light Platinum with Jet Black accents.

The ATS-V also features a unique version of the 5.7-inch, three-window instrument panel cluster display, with V-Series graphics and distinctive gauge readouts. It is also equipped with the latest connectivity technologies from Cadillac, including:

  • CUE with Bluetooth connectivity with natural voice recognition
  • Text-to-voice that converts incoming text messages to speech and reads them over the audio system speakers
  • USB, auxiliary and SD memory card ports
  • OnStar 4G LTE connectivity with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot.

The Performance Data Recorder is controlled via CUE’s color touch screen and recordings can be reviewed on the screen when the vehicle is parked...

I'm a big fan of this car but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't underwhelmed by the interior. I still can't figure out why Cadillac chose those ugly gauges.

In the end it's all about the drive so I guess we'll have to wait and see...

The interior is fine. If you expected some Bentley level interior from this small Cadillac sedan, you really must be an idiot.

No wait, I already know it.

Can't believe I agree with JDSMiniscule: The ATS interior IS fine, it debuted in 2013 with the first ATS and this one has slight modifications. Compared, in 2013, to the C/3/A4 this interior was fantastic. My Black ATS 3.6 has the carbon fiber and Red Leather, and I use CUE everyday and its also terrific, you just have to get used to it. The seats in the ATS are std leather which is optional on 3 & C & std on A4. The std seats are again, fine.

That said, cars are changing quickly and now the ATS interior isn't the leader, the new C Class is, so, the next refresh on the ATS (CT whatever?) should keep the improvements coming. I think this ATS-V will be a stunning car to drive as the normally aspirated 3.6 has 321bhp which is more than any person will ever need. The V will be a thrill ride, no doubt. Keep it coming Cadillac. Oh, one last point your dealers need to improve dramatically in the Cust Svc area. There are 4 Cad dealers in my town and I'll never go back to the one I leased the ATS from, they suck!

On the 10th photo, what is that thing on the side of the dashboard? It looks like something you'd see in a 90's Chevy sedan.

The seats are amazing...the gauges could use some work, one of the articles said they would be redone when the refreshed ATS is released.

My 2010 CTS-V had a fine interior save the seats, which were ridiculously uncomfortable with that anteriorly sloping headrest. There was never a way to adjust the thing to make it comfortable. This Cadillac looks to have the same problems. If they want to copy BMW, copy the seats.

GM's faux suede is awful. The alcantara material in my JCW Mini was so fantastic that I ordered my C7 Corvette with GM's version and could not be more disappointed with the feel and quality. Extremely low rent when compared with competition. Do your cost cutting GM in areas the customer does not see or touch not on steering wheels and seats!

I have sat in the newest CTS, XTS and ATS. Am I the only that thinks all the interior looks the same with just some very minor changes.

Seats and steering wheel seem so out of place. Also, that hanging cord would freak me out every time I step into my car

Surely that cord is not going to be there in the production cars… that would be crazy. The rest of the interior… Steering wheel: C- bulky & ugly, tops in the class M3/M4, even the VW GTI steering wheel is better.
Center Control Stack: C- looks like an inserted boom box, tops in class Mercedes C class AMG
Shifter: B+ looks nice, not sure how it feels yet though… but visually nice, Class leader Corvette
Pedals: B nice enough but not special, Class leader Audi
Speaker grill design and placement: C needs an A pillar tweeter, grill looks like something from the 70s, class leader… everyone else???
Seats: B+ nice looking, good design for aggressive track driving however this should perhaps be an optional seat, or alternatively offer a more comfortable seat as an option. You need a supportive seat, but for longer distance driving you don't want a tightly constrictive supportive seat or you will get numb and uncomfortable. Class leader… depends but I like the look and feel of the BMW M3/M4 and the Audi RS4 seats the best for now.
Center Console: B nice looking could be better though, more special somehow, class leader Merc C class AMG
Door Panels: B-
Interior Door panels: B nice enough but nothing special and the speaker covering…
Overall: B- Cadillac should look to Audi's new TT, Merc C class or the Mini Superlegerra for some interior design inspiration.

I'm excited for this car, TBH. The V trim gives both the coupe and sedan the visual weight that the non-V versions were sorely missing. I'm digging the more compact dimensions of the coupe. Yes, the interior isn't top-notch, but it's pleasing enough. I just hope they enhanced the instrument cluster a bit as the non-V version looks very un-premium.
