#LAAUTOSHOW: Lexus Already Shelves RC Convertible Because The World Needs Another 3 Row SUV
Like the LF-C2 concept (aka the Lexus RC convertible)? Too bad, it’s DOA. Never going to happen. The plan to build a concept and then a real car was set in motion years ago, but now it will never see the light of day as a production vehicle. Some inside Lexus are furious over this decision because the RC was strengthened (made heavier than it had to be) to be a convertible -- and as it turns out, that was pointless. Why else would it use the center section from an IS Convertible?

Lexus isn't a real luxury brand if they can't just do both.

Agreed. There's no reason why Lexus can't develop both cars simultaneously.

I believe its a case of 'won't do', not 'can't do'.

This is why they will never be a serious competitor to the M, AMG, RS etc… series from the Germans. They will 1/2 way dabble in sports cars but they are not serious about competing in this area. Unfortunately that seems true of all the Japanese makers except perhaps Nissan who have done a fairly good job of presenting some capable sports cars year after year ever since the Datsun 240Z. Yet even they falter and ignore the nice products they have, don't bother with serious upgrades etc… and let them age beyond a best sell by date.

Shelving this is unwise. That said, the sooner the truly agricultural GX and the rebadged Land Cruiser are replaced with something that isn't a Toyota elsewhere the better.
