Cadillac Says More Diesels, V Series Performance SUV and 911 Competitor In Works - What Are They Missing?
Since taking up the reins at Cadillac, long-time Audi exec and former boss of Infiniti Johan de Nysschen has been dropping plenty of hints about the American luxury brand’s future. Cadillac is in the midst of significant change, with the brand already announcing a new naming strategy plus a move of its headquarters to New York City.

The next stage of the transformation will see some brand new product introduced, starting with a replacement for the SRX, the new CT6 range-topping sedan and a large crossover with third-row seats.

Agree with Mr MDarringer, this guy sounds like a disaster for Cadillac. They should focus on Cadillac being itself, not trying to be a German wannabe. The ATS is just not right for Cadillac, the whole styling should be lower, wider and longer, because Cadillac is also about excess. Also this is not to say they should not make V series cars and the ATS V looks like a promising fun car as the new CTS V will be I am sure. But Cadillac needs to make cars more like the El Mirage, low, long, elegant and fast. That should be their focus from top to bottom, not chasing Germans. Cadillac should focus on charting their own course and let others follow.

I have been saying this for quite a while - De Nysschen is not making any sense- abandoning an American Luxury car market that had the money - to ATTEMPT to compete with the germans on their turf - not going to happen.

The ATS/CTS twins are simply too SMALL inside - have no trunk space - and that without a spare tire too. THe Toyota corolla has more interior space than a CTS. The the 1/2 gen CTS was competing with the c-class/3 series - it had a major advantage - it was bigger inside - and it still barely dented the dominance. Now - the ATS is measurable smaller than either - and the CTS is priced far over what it is worth. It cannot compete with the 5/E class cars.

Cadillac needs to be a LUXURY car manufacturer - not a sports car manufacturer(BMW sells few large cars - Audi is the same) -= and that means offering power and performance - with space and luxury.

Having said that - Mary Bara will outlast DeNysschen without question - and eventually she will have to either reign him in = or heave him out.

I agree and returning to NAMES Imaj, Ciel, Cien, Elmiraj would be good. There is no reason for Cadillac to play the alphabet soup game because that just makes them Mercedes/BMW chasers.

HOWEVER, if they would to produce American premium cars that are unashamed to be American, they would gain traction. The CTS and the ATS are good starts. Name them and go longer, lower, and wider.

Moreover, they do not need a full range because Buick can handle the lower-end premium. Co-branding Buick and Cadillac would work if the two brands divided up the span of the model range that Mercedes/BMW have. It would have the effect of elevating both brands.

Kill the Volt and the ELR and spit out a Buick Electra sedan that replaces both.

Do a bespoke Cadillac EV that shares NOTHING with lesser GM products.

On a tangent at Lincoln, the same is true. Turn Lincoln into a 2-4 car brand

Continental / RWD rectilinear, suicide-door, S Class-sized sedan
Mark / RWD S Class sized coupe
Sentinel / RWD 5 Series-sized coupesedan

"...Cadillac is in the midst of significant change..."
- We've moved an office from Detroit to New York
- We're changing the models' names
Yup, there's lots changing at Cadillac!

I believe a really good start would be to answer the question: What do we want to be known for?

When Lexus started, they defined that as few defects and a high level of apparent luxury. BMW has their characteristic ride. What's Caddy known for today, aside from awkward origami styling, and claiming to have their sites on whomever is doing a good job?

Moving to NYC is just plan stupid. How much will that cost? and when they move it back to Detroit in a couple years again with more costs.
Cadillac cars need to be restyled they have changed little and are boring.
A Flagship CT6? what the heck is that. Cadillac once ruled luxury cars but in the past couple decades or so have set their site so low it's hard not to miss.
How about a nice roomy interior one that will sit 3 abreast with room to move. Right now what is the norm on all cars is 3 children might fit not adults. A wider stance and interior with real leg room lie the Fleetwood had. Bring out a real American Luxury car not a carbon copy of a German or Asian car.

If they are trying to hire better corporate finance/legal/marketing folks (i.e. bean counters) Cadillac may believe that they can do it better by moving the headquarters to NYC. These people would likely be unwilling to move to Detroit.
