MINI Discontinues Paceman - Core Range Of Vehicles To Settle In At 5 Models

MINI has confirmed that its model line-up from 2015 onwards will consist of five models instead of eight.

Peter Schwarzenbauer, the BMW board member responsible for the iconic British brand, said yesterday in Munich that the next models based on the new MINI platform will be a new Clubman estate and Countryman crossover. He said they will form part of a core range of five cars.

Interesting but a bit disappointing. Mini was branching out trying new things, of the three being axed the Paceman seemed to have the most potential. Beyond that the superleggera really should be built and soon. Everyone seems to have ceded the small affordable sports car/roadster to Mazda. The new Mazda MX5 seems like easy pickings, not much to offer beyond what has already been offered since 1989. Mini should build a hybrid lite version of the superleggera with the 3 cyl from the i8 and rear wheel drive (seems fair since BMW is building FWD). Would be a killer, great style, some battery powered propulsion for city driving and the turbo 3cyl for the mountain runs.

RIP Coupes and Roadsters, my customers will miss ya guys... I am excited to see the future lineup of even better MINIs using the new Hardtop hardware/design. The Clubman is going to be awesome!

Mini was branching out with oddball derivatives, but the problem was that they are not flying out of the dealers. A hybrid Mini and an EV mini make lots of sense.

i actually really liked the coupe ( wished it was 2+2) and paceman, problem with both is they are just really expensive ! for such little cars you option them out and they are like over 35k ! plenty of other better cars out there for the money, not as fun, but definitely better.

Is it the 500 to blame? Because I don't think Mini saw it coming.
