SPIED: FRESH Spy Pics Of The Next-Gen BMW 7-Series' INTERIOR Show Us BEAUTY May Be On The INSIDE
Now if you read my last thread, which concerned the all-new BMW 7-Series, you probably felt my disappointment. What can I say? The spy shots of the vehicle's exterior are INCREDIBLY underwhelming.

This will be essentially the third-generation of a car that has not seen significant change. Well, at least on the outside.

It seems the BIG changes will be coming on the INSIDE. We know this because we've been keeping a close eye on the latest and greatest BMW concepts. We expect BMW to be the first to have a driver's display and a passenger display. In addition, we will NOT be surprised if back seat passengers get their own tablet to toy with — seen in the Future Luxury Concept.

In addition, the latest spy shots showing the 7-Series interior depict new iDrive software and new center stack. Though we cannot see a passenger side display, our fingers are crossed. According to a BMW insider, it's on the way.

The G11 7 Series has now been spied out and about with a production-level interior. The biggest change that we can now see compared to the previous sighting is new iDrive software. The screen shows a never before seen iDrive menu and we now also see the climate control display and controller layout.

And the biggest shocker is that the new iDrive screen will be a touchscreen!

Looks like BMW will continue its streak of cheap plastic interiors. And do not get me started on their speedo design.

So, 00R calls the S-Class interior "old man-ish", "a snoozefest", and "uninspired". You know what's "uninspired"? Predictable German interior design. Audi and BMW have both become predictable to the point of lacking imagination. Sure, put quality material on top of trite design, and the Euro-worshippers (as some butthead on this site calls them) are creaming their jeans. At least Mercedes is taking a risk with the S-Class and C-Class interior designs, and diverging from the norm. Thank God someone is and hopefully will end this expectation of such homogenized execution that is so prevalent in automotive circles.
The reality is that the S-class is resonating with the throngs of people that's helping it set sales records and far distance itself from the competition.

Yes, but you forget one very important thing. The "old man's S-class" is destroying both the A8 and 7 Series.
If you were a luxury car builder, would you want your flagship to dominate in sales or would you want that of your lower-end cars?

I agree with all of you. Because Lexus LS has by far superior interior and not to mention Lexus LS is basically the standard.

Centers stack design looks like it was mimicked off a Rav4

I'm not impressed, but since I'd never buy one of these it doesn't matter.

While BMW is breaking sales records and offering what seems like a new model every month, I can't help but feel they are heading towards a brick wall at 100mph and disaster is looming. I say that as a (former) very passionate enthusiast of the brand.

I feel the same way. BMW lost its unrivaled driving dynamics and "Ultimate Driving Machine" ethos a long time ago. All the new models are overlapping with each other, some of the designs are absolutely horrid and now the interiors all have the exact same design and use cheap plastic materials (even in a flagship 7-series).

The new 7-series will be dead on arrival. It's interior is already looking cheap as hell compared to the S-class and the exterior design surely won't evoke that same sense of presence as the regal S-class in black on black with sport package. The sales will be forgettable and Mercedes-Benz won't even blink at this sad attempt to rival the dominant S-class.

You are one of the FIRST blogger I've read to also post something meaningful like this. I owned a several BMWs and some of their fan boys should wake up and smell the coffee as they say. Having owned a 5 series about 12 years ago (and a couple of 3 series), BMW is now pandering to EVERY car enthusiast. We have the soccer moms with many SUV flavors; people who must have a front wheel drive; people who can't decide between crossovers vs SUVs; the lure to Cadillac drivers; the young generation who want the cheaper $29,990 car; the people who want a car to ride like a Lincoln and so on.

Get back to your ROOTS of building high performance and superior handling cars that German car drivers (me) have a passion for. I don't want a BORING Lexus without any soul. Cut some weight off the 5 series and quit making these cars LARGER in dimensions. Do what you do BEST (performance); don't worry about who can afford your cars and you will not have to fight with Audi or MB and you'll DOMINATE the other car companies again. Then I'll come back when the bloated 5 series has been taken to the wood shed.
