REVIEW: Audi S3 gets panned in the UK
Such a car is the Audi S3. I’ll remember my hours behind its wheel for the rest of my life, not because it was super-fast or did things other cars can’t do, but simply because it just felt beautifully, naturally, almost ineffably right.

Sadly for me, that drive took place more than seven years ago in the original S3. My time in its replacement was rather less edifying. On sale in Britain in the new year with prices starting at £26,995, it shows that Audi, while seeming to know all there is about how to make a car look right, still has something to learn about how to make them go properly too.

Ouch. That's gonna leave a mark.

The reviewer thought it was gorgeous too. That was the irony of his response on how it drove.

I guess we think the car's imperfections would somehow be altered once you put it on a boat and shipped it over to North America...?

Whatever, UK reviewers don't really like anything that isn't British. I seem to remember that the BMW Z4 M coupe got a horrible review from the same magazine.

Logical find me an article saying that the RS4 handling, ride and acceleration is sloppy. Until you find me an article I refuse to believe that the RS4 is a sloppy handling car.

Until you find me proof I won't buy a single one of your claims neither will anyone else on this site.

Your better off just not posting because you waste your time writing such utter nonsense.

Tell BMW to up their prices and then they will actually compete with Audi who has low end roots but charges a HIGHER price for its most expensive car than BMW does. The R8 is going to be faster than anything BMW produces and the interiors are better.

I think the cheapness of BMW in price and materials quality is becoming utterly apparent.

Of course those who can afford the best Audi, can't afford the best BMW right logical?

Knowing you, you would say that the person who buys the A8L 6.0 W12 for $119,350 can't afford the $118,900 760Li.

Your such a waste of time....

low end roots? oh jesus, this again.
AUDI IS NOT OWNED BY VW. Audi is partially owned by VW group, which is partially owned by porsche. if VW group was called Audi group, would that help?
then VWs would be based on audis.
or what about bentley or lamborghini group?
it's just a name.

"You could say this about every slobby Audi. You cant hide its low end roots. It shows up when it really counts."

yes, i was just driving along when all of a sudden i realised my car didn't have a propellor badge and was therefore crap.
low end roots? what low end roots?
bmw's interiors are the low end things and in case you forgot, the inside is where you spend most of your time.
when it really counts? HUH? where does "it realy count"?
waste of time? this car? the one that beats the pants off a 1 series?
it has more room, it handles better, it has a better interior, it is faster and it looks better.
why then is it a waste of time?
slobby?
how?
at least audis don't look fat, unlike most recent bmws.

and i have changed my opinion. lexus is worthy of tier 1 status. its engineering and quality gives it that privelige.
so now audi, bmw, merc and lexus are all tier one.
i may not want a lexus but they are good cars.

logical, a challenge for you.

what makes audis bad cars and not worthy of tier one status?
give me reasons.
give me facts.
give me figures.
give me proof.

i want to see why your little head thinks like that.

Just for the record, BMW comes out with a cheap, 1.6-powered, black plastic-clad hatch with hubcaps.

And no it's not the MINI, its the 1-series.

Internationally known as being a slow, under-performing hatch with no space and questionable quality. In essence, it has no point but to act as an ego-inflation device for the poor (literally) delusional people who throw all rationality out the window when they buy it.

Yes, BMW makes a slow, cramped and dynamically mediocre hatch.

Scandal.

Hey let me ask you this Logical? When you know Audi interiors are the best how come you said you wouldn't be caught dead in one. Obviously the materials quality is higher than what you will find in a comparative 3-series and the interior is obviously the best in class as noted by Edmunds. Personally I like having that advantage over BMW.

You mean what color will my 335i come in. Well considering I've already optioned the thing and given my dealer the quote, Logical. It will be montego blue (almost like LeMans) with creme beige and dark poplar wood.

Do you know if they will do piano black as an ala carte option?

Hey logical I strongly suggest you stop trolling the whole bmw thing. It's funny when someone like me who will have more bmws at one time than you will and will have double the amount of bmws you have, can write what I do about Audi.

Listen, I obviously appreciate BMW (why would we have so many if we didn't) but your calling the Audi a Jetta when in every single class the "Jettas" come with beter interiors than their comparative bmw counterparts has got to stop.

Why do you not understand that higher materials quality, finer interiors, higher prices, faster acceleration and better track times = a competing car company.

Personally, you are not worthy of BMW. The BMW CEO would be sad to see you as an owner of one of his company's automobiles. When he recognizes the fact that Audi is indeed a competing car company, and we have people like you who keep posting such nonsense it really does hurt the brand you so passionately support.

You are the epitome of the typical bmw customer mentioned in the businessweek article regarding how 75% of car shoppers overlook BMW. You bring that stigma to the brand, which is evidently hurting BMW.

I'm trying to achieve two things by posting here. The first being increased brand awareness for Audi and attempting to give them more respect and secondly, I'm trying to show you that even those people who drive bmws and no it's not a run of the mill 325i with manual seats, can and will appreciate cars from other car companies.

Logical I will laugh long and hard when your "xi" gets wrapped around a tree all because you thought BMW's AWD system was superior to Audi's Quattro.

Logical every single time you post something against Audi, I'm going to correct your statements (not to argue with you) but to raise Audi's brand awareness.

Be prepared to have all your Audi is a VW, cheap roots, sales arguements..... be corrected.

I'm going to make sure your antics stop on this website and if they don't I will simply correct them for you.

I will not sit here and watch you make a mockery of a brand that has achieved the pinnacle in automotive interiors, performance (compared to BMW) and price (also compared to BMW) and say they are Volkswagens.

I've had enough of this, and I speak for everyone else on this website as well.

I will systematically correct all your posts and I will make sure that people like you can't destroy what Audi has worked so hard for and it is about time they receive the proper recognition for doing so.

By the way I would like to mention that BMW owners are appreciatve of Audi. We will be on BMWs # 6 & 7 and I will say that I appreciate Audi, and they do truly kick our (BMW's) ass when it comes to interiors - enough said.

logical - I don't drive a jetta, and you still haven't (and won't, because you can't) told us why we have to be in the market for a certain car to be able to talk about it. Apparently the whole VAG revolves around the Jetta, hmmm...interesting.

i actually feel quite sorry for you children. (if you have any)

vw group does not own audi. audi trades seperately from vw on the stock market, at a higher price. vw group is a shareholder, not the out right owner.
i think it's funny that you think all audis revolve around the golf platform. yes all 2 audis that do, even then on a chopped and very much changed version (does the golf have any aluminium? no.)
"vw is not able to produce anything nice". ever heard of lambo or bentley? or the gti, the a8, the rs4?

what 99 jetta? does anyone here have a jetta?
german nut has a 335 on order, an x5, an a4 something or other, and various other cars.
and you NEVER contest my arguments, as you know i'm right. vw group make good cars, nay great cars, and you can't find a reason to hate them. dislike them all you want, but don't go around making ridiculous allegations (ie vw doesn't make a good car) and expect us to take you seriously.
and FYI, i can't drive, but my first car will be the our range rover (if the insurance too much them probably a golf), my dad has a 740, my mother a 3er convertible.
in the time that i've been alive, we've had 5 bimmers, 3 mercs, 1 audi, 1 land rover, 1 porsche, 1 saab, 1 volvo and a vauxhall.
the first 7 series was terrible, and frequently melted.
the merc sl didn't work (the roof, key, engine all failed, sent it back), the 230te went on for ever (and ever and ever and ever), the 300te got stolen. the 928 need new air conditioning at about 6000 dollars (but was v quick with the 5 litre), the saab a new roof (convertible), the range rover new suspension, the volvo new tyres all the time, one 3er got stolen, the other got old. our current 3er is fine.
the audi a8 was perhaps the most trouble free of all our cars, and since we had it when i was 11, the TV function was the height of cool, and it is probably the best car we've owned.
our current 740 we've only had for about 1 month (its a 1999) and it is good. i don't hate bimmers, i hate people like you.
and having a 525 more expensive than an a6 3.0 isn't very good.
