WHICH and WHY? COUPE Or CONVERTIBLE, How Would YOU Get Your Bentley Continental GT V8 S?

WHICH and WHY? COUPE Or CONVERTIBLE, How Would YOU Get Your Bentley Continental GT V8 S?
If you're shopping for a Bentley Continental GT, you will have a couple of difficult decisions to make. First off, there's a bunch of variants. Aside from the GT3-R, the V8 S is the latest and greatest — and, in my opinion, the best right now.

Secondly, and I think this is the harder one to figure out, is whether or not you'll take the soft-top version. While not all Bentley buyers are adding this as their fifth vehicle to their respective fleet, some are. And considering that the convertible doesn't drive wildly different over its slick top sibling, I don't see how having a little wind in your hair could hurt.

That said, I wanted to run it past you, the tastemakers. Having driven several Continental GTs now, I can confidently say that they're all brilliant and not much separates the coupe from the drop top. At this point it's all about your personal preference and rationale.

So, WHICH and WHY? Would YOU pick the Continental GT coupe or convertible?

I'm a big Bentley GTC fan. It's regal, stately, classic, and on the sporting side. To *me*, it's the car I lust for. I prefer the convertible because there's nothing like open coach touring on a warm summer night. The stars are your roof :-)

Very poetic, @TheSteve.

I have to agree with you. This car is a brilliant, brilliant convertible. And, for some reason, it looks BETTER as a drop top than as a slick top.

In addition, you do NOT give up practicality as this top is incredibly quiet.

The blind spot increases a touch but it's not a huge deal in my mind.

Does that mean they can finally put the W-12 out to pasture? Why would anybody get one of those anymore, as the V8 is so fantastic.

The W-12 is so old, it found its roots in the VW Corrado's VR6 of the 1990's; the VW Passat's W8 of the early aughts; which of course spawned the W12 back in, oh about 2004. Are MB or BMW still selling ANY powerplants that were in production in 2004? I think not.

VW is so underinvesting in Bentley, its silly. It is starved for resources apparently. But wait - the Bentley Touareg is on the way...can't wait!

Haha. Brutal.

Yeah, I think the W12 should be overlooked by anyone with a brain. The V8 S is an excellent machine. The W12 I drove in the new Flying Spur felt better with the new transmission but I still don't love the motor. Plenty of torque but there's something about the sound that I just don't like.

With BMW and Mercedes producing such magnificent 12 cylinder motors for its luxury cars, VAG's Bentley needs something new. Screw it, just get the V8 S, IMHO.

I'm kinda over the Continental. Old very familiar design, old 12, basic updates but no major design changes in what 10 years. I'll pass for now. How's that new S63 coupe?

Check out the V8 S review. It's given the vehicle new life.

Now the S63 AMG I am curious about myself.
