State Of Virginia Sentences Washington Nationals’ Outfielder Jayson Werth To Jail For Speeding?

He is known to have signed the 14th richest contract in baseball history, back in 2010, when he dropped a seven-year agreement with the Washington Nationals worth $126 million. But outfielder Jayson Werth wasn’t that good at keeping himself out of prison, as he is at throwing the baseball.

Werth was cited with misdemeanor reckless driving in Virginia after he was caught doing 105 mph in a 55 mph zone at the wheel of his Porsche. That would normally leave a man without his driving license and some penalty points, for the worse, but in the state of Virginia speeding is taken quite serious.

Anyone surprised by this headline is not familiar with the Commonwealth's position on speeding, specifically reckless driving.

If he gets 10 days, he is lucky.

By law, any speed over 80mph in VA is "reckless driving". Pretty sure 20mph over limit is also. Speed limit in some areas is 70mph, so even 11mph over could be considered misdemeanor reckless driving. It's kind of a scam because the moment you get one of these tickets, your are besieged with letters from attorneys offering to represent you. Few years back I was ticketed for 86 in a 70 and received 25 different attorney letters. Was told back then that jail time is common for anyone going over 90 and heard 1 day for each mph over 90.
