PHOTO Overload! WHO Did It BETTER? BMW X6 vs. Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class
I remember when we first saw the Mercedes-Benz concept that would soon become what's now known as the GLE-Class. Agent001 and I looked at each other and said "Wow, Mercedes really hearts BMW."

And it's pretty clear not much has changed from concept to reality. Of course the expensive parts have been replaced with productionalized ones, as in any transition from concept to reality.

Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class

2015 BMW X6

But we think there's an elephant in the room that requires a bit of attention: WHO actually executed the four-door "coupe" styling for a sport-utility vehicle better? BMW? Mercedes-Benz?

That's why I've collected two sets of photos. The first set is all of the now released images of the all-new GLE-Class and the other set are the real-life pics 001 shot at the 2015 BMW X6's launch in the south.

That said, we're curious to hear what YOU think. Whose design is BETTER? The X6 or the GLE?

The Mercedes looks more posh, in my opinion. The BMW looks more off-roady. Or maybe that's just the photo subject matter playing tricks on me!

They are so dang similar. I prefer the Mercedes front and maybe the BMW rear. Overall I like the Mercedes more, I think.

They are VERY similar.

When I was scrolling through fast I didn't notice where one ended and the other began. No joke.

MB has this one in the bag, customers have been waiting for a more sporty dramatic version of the M now GLE class for a while only to settle for a subtle AMG package or empty account for ML 63. This also teases a variation of what the E Class rear tail lights will be similar to those on the S Class Coupe

As for the X6, it's already been severely diluted by members of its own family, the X3, X4, and X5 practically wear the same face with more interior room

I had no idea the X6 was selling so well that Mercedes would blatantly rip off its design. That being said, I think they both look like baked potatoes.

Mercedes looks like it is supposed to be a kids' car, or something that's supposed to be a sedan, not the actual SUV.

But the BMW X6 looks actually like an SUV.

I think they both are a pointless vehicle but i am sure they will sell.

To me, the MB manage the rear space, better than the BMW, and looks more expensive and clean design too.

Neither looks more expensive than the over. I guess it just depends on how much "brightwork" is included on the exterior & whether or not the gaudiness is kept to a minimum. Both are lifestyle type of vehicles, having a point or necessity for their existence isn't necessary. They're sporty & look fun to drive....divergent from the norm I guess.

...I wonder what Infiniti has been up to lately...would be nice to see the FX...er...Q70 join the foray of updated sport-oriented SUVs again.

It's a tie. Now take a XM6 or AMG GLE and make a convertible version and I'll be first in line. I want a high riding, all weather, big motored convertible for all seasons. A modern day luxo Ford Bronco. I know Nissan failed with its butt ugly version but there is a market out there to be taken. Remember the journalists laughed at the X6 but consumers have spoken to the tune of 250,000 sold...not a bad niche market for a slight makeover. In 2015 Land Rover will introduce an Evoque convertible which will force Mercedes and BMW to follow suit and I'll have my wish as well as many others seeking some all round vehicle for all seasons with style and fun.

The rooflines differentiate the overall character of both the GLE & X6.

The X6 roofline has "fastback" type of shape. Where the GLE has a more conventional roof. That said, the GLE seems smaller than the X6 where it seems to have a fair amount of trunk space. It'll be good to see the 2 in a real-life side-by-side comparo.

The GLE is more appealing than the awkward profile of the BMW X6. The 'coupe' styling of the GLE has a better transition. The BMW looks like two different vehicles spliced together, front to back. The X6 is really ungainly...like this big, awkward blob of a thing. When the X4 came out, I so much wanted to like it, especially after all the driving impressions. Yet, in person it is odd too, just on a smaller scale. You cannot even be quite sure what it is. I will reserve final judgment on the GLE until after I see it in person.

The BMW looks alot nicer as the GLE looks like a CLA that has been raised up. It looks a good amount smaller than the X6. Especially in the rear seats and even the front seats. The X6 is quite large and has much more of a presence.

leej: I Couldn't say it better. Honestly I am 100% sure that the GLE will have a better space to adults in the rear seat than the X6. and definitely look a lot better than the reworked X6, Inside or outside the Winner is the GLE if the price is Right, let see how this goes when MB start to sell it ...is going to be an interesting war...

are you out of your mind as you can see the proportions from the pictures have the vehicle as being smaller than the X6. Have you seen the X6 in person as it is very nice looking?

Yes, there's no question they both have similar profiles, but the more you look at them both the more you appreciate each for their own unique design direction. That being said, if forced to choose one just based on design, I'd choose the GLE. There's just something a bit cleaner, more modern, and more premium about its design.

BMW. Especially on the interior. The MB trim is brutal! So much wood! Ive seen the 2015 X6 in person and it looks good. Wish I could afford the V8 :(
