Audi Q7 V12 TDI Fuel Economy Revealed

Here is another confirmation that the Q7 will come with a V12 TDI. This report also goes on to tell us some key details about the new 500 hp and 723 lb-ft torque V12 TDI. The diesel engine will have a common-rail injection system with pressure of 2,000 bar (29,000 PSI), current common-rail engines top out at 1,600 bar. This is directly lifted out of the R10 racecar. The most interesting tidbit of information is the fuel economy. The Q7 V12 TDI is rumored to only consume 11.9 liters of diesel per 100 km. This translates to 20 mpg. This compares very well with the 16.5 liters consumed by the ML63 AMG (503 hp), EPA rated at 12/16. The Q7 will also fulfill the not yet enforced Euro 5 emission standard.

Doing some math, the Q7 V12 TDI would probably get an EPA rating of 16/20 using the current testing method. (that would be gone even before Europe gets it) This is the fuel economy of the 3.6 liter V6. That is V6 fuel economy with the power of a V12, not bad at all.

I still don't like the idea of a V12 TDI in an SUV. The reviews about the 3.0 TDI Q7 have been pretty positive. The market in Europe for the V12 Q7 will be small, very small.

And we in the US don't even get this thing...

A V12 will not make any sense,and Audi will not be able to sell even 10% of these Q7s.

Well...I'll be one of those 10%. But like MDalle said, the price will be murderous. You know what they say about cars like this though: "If you have to ask, you probably can't afford it."

If AUDI put this thing up for sale, I will sell my position on the X5 and go for this instead.

The Price will not be above that of the Current 4.8is or ML500 Fully Laden with Options.

The Fuel economy will not be the Clincher for selling this car, but it is a GREAT BONUS ( V12 Performance with V6 Economy) if that is correct it will sell Loads.

The thing that i want to know the most is if it will be as SILENT as the V12 Le Mans Engine Was. The current Diesels available are horrendous, especially at night in the Suburbs (Its almost as if they deliberately become louder as you get into the most quiet areas)

Have any of you seen a the Turbo Cayenne S? I believe it starts at around $111K and can easily exceed $132K nicely equipped. The performance is said to be 0-60 in 4.8sec. It produces 520hp and 530lbs of torque. I have seen more than a few of these on the road already out here in the west so obviously there is a demand for such a beast. Oh, and it gets 13/18mpg for those who care.

My Girlfriend Drives a 535d M-sport and while it is "Quiet compared to other Diesels" it is not even close to the 550i Noise Levels. The 550i at idle is almost silent (I know because I switched with one of my colleagues for a weekend when he had to go to Scotland) and with the engine of the 550i on I could not hear it from Inside the House. With the 535d you could hear it very clearly. Same can be said for the A8 4.2 TDI, MB CLK 320 CDI Sport. (All these cars i have had for at least 1 week to see what they are like to live with).
At driving speeds they are no worse than the Petrol Engined Versions but at Tickover it is BAD, But my biggest GRIPE is when you first start it up in the morning (Winter mornings are the worst) it needs about 30secs-1min to settle into a Less Noisy rhythm

The newer diesels are much quieter than ever. Maybe you heard some truck or a Detroit or Cummins Diesel.

A gasoline equivalent (alwo with 500 hp but much less torque) uses up 16.5 liters of fuel. The V12 TDI looks much more efficient.

I am tired of trying to make my point

Granted the new diesels are Quieter than the Older Generation of Diesels but they are not as Quiet as their Petrol Counterparts.

Stand By the Engine Bay of A Diesel Engined Car at Tickover and then do the same for a similar Displacement Petrol Engine of the Same Model and compare the noise levels at Tickover and you will get my point.

Until you have done that please stop trying to argue with me, it is getting tiresome.

The only crude diesel car on the road today is probably the Ford Excursion- it sounds like a semi-truck. If it's still on sale today, that is. I'm 100% sure mstangpny07 will be able to answer this question-- isn't the Excursion being effectively replaced by the new Expedition LWB?

This diesel engine makes much more torque than the ones in American pickups and almost double the horsepower. This one will also be very smooth and quiet. And of course fuel efficient.

I was comparing it to the diesel American trucks. But you are right it makes double the torque of the gasoline powered pickups.

There are official pictures of the Audi Q7 V12 TDi floating around on the net, I posted a story containing the link but it was removed -along with post containing the link- obviously the site I referred to is not allowed on Autospies.

Whatever, the Q7 V12 has a S6-esque front end, with LED driving lights above deeper bumper intakes, while the lower sills of the car are colour-coded.
