Mercedes Ponders Moving HQ From Ice Belt To A Southern State

Mercedes-Benz, after more than 40 years in New Jersey, is considering moving its U.S. headquarters south to Georgia or North Carolina, according to media reports.

The Atlanta Business Chronicle first reported the possibility of the move Tuesday. A relocation would mark the end of the company's 42-year-old ties with Montvale, N.J., where Mercedes-Benz employs about 800 people.

Mercedes-Benz is also studying several cities in North Carolina, two people briefed on the matter told The Wall Street Journal.

Mercedes-Benz declined to comment.

You've got it wrong...de Nysschen is the one who wants to move AWAY from the Cadillac plants...

MB wants to be closer to their plants and save labor and housing costs. Besides the northern NJ suburban office market is basically "dead" and they are probably looking at a decision to either completely modernize and update their 30+ year old suburban office building in Montvale, NJ (look it up on Google earth), in an area with crushing traffic and high taxes (and crazy Chris Christie), versus getting a much cheaper, much nicer HQ in an area where it is cheap for employees to live.

Its a no-brainer; they are definitely moving.
