MERRY CHRISTMAS! IF You Were To Gift Your Significant Other A Set Of Wheels, WHAT Would You Pick And WHY?

MERRY CHRISTMAS! IF You Were To Gift Your Significant Other A Set Of Wheels, WHAT Would You Pick And WHY?
You know, it's funny. Every single year those car commercials roll out in the fall showing cars being gifted to folks' loved ones for the holidays. And every single year, my mother asks me the same thing: "Who actually does that?"

Good question, ma! Thing is I don't have the answer.

That said, I was curious to ask YOU all — the tastemakers — WHAT vehicle would YOU gift your significant other on Christmas day?

And in true AutoSpies tradition, we want to know WHY you picked that ride.

From the Agents to you, we wish you a Merry Christmas and we hope you're enjoying the special day surrounded with lots of family and lots of love!

She has what she wants--for now--a Mercedes GL. That's her fanciest car ever.

She used to drive Jettas, then an Optima.

When our first son came along and she kept the Optima, then she got pregnant--how did that happen?--with twin boys--how did that happen?--and so the Mercedes GL became her first choice.

How long we keep it remains to be seen.

She wants 5-6 kids. She's 1 of 7. I'm 1 of 6. She's Italian. I'm white trash. We're Catholic. Ba da bing ba da boom an Escalade may be needed.

I suspect that if I could give her the new CTSV for her girls night out releases from her indentured servitude that she would not complain. Currently, she drives the Mercedes to dad and mom's house to borrow dad's Ghibli when she goes out on the town.

A dream car can bring such a sense of accomplishment.

As a teenager my dream car was a TVR...any TVR...and life brought men (in the car industry) my way that owned them. They were fervent collectors of various types of cars. I learned a lot about vintage cars and track cars as a result of my TVR fascination.

A few years ago, one of the glorious fanantics handed me the keys to an orange Sagaris and it felt good.

The guy knew me first as a car wash monkey and then a customer shuttle driver while I was in college. I tried selling cars for a while when I was 20 and I was good at it but not willing to do that instead getting my degrees.

The irony is that I completed my education only to find my place in cars.

I believe we made dreams come true on Black Friday and it felt good.

I now have the degrees and

and I hit submit too soon...I was going to say that I have my degrees and what drives me is not academics but making people fall in love with the cars they drive.

Range Rover Sport 5.0 Supercharged, why? So she can get out of anything the world throws at her while sipping her latte and listening to Tchaikovsky or Abba.

As you can see the comments here, Mercedes, remains to be the ultimate gift and the status symbol for the upper middle class families.

Well, pretty much any European luxury automobile is a status symbol, but Mercedes-Benz seems to be the real boss.

And we ask ourselves, when will Japan's Lexus, Acura & Infiniti, and America's Cadillac and Lincoln ever be able to compete with Mercedes-Benz?

My answer is most likely never, when they can't even keep up with Audi, which still is pretty famous among athletes and celebrities because of R8 and A7.

I would happily gift my girl friend an Escalade.... if she likes Caddy that is.

The flaw of you scientific analysis is that this is a microcosm.

Not true. I have never seen, a "single" female around me who wanted a Cadillac or a Lincoln. Not to mention it is pretty rare to even find a female celebrity driving a Caddy or a Lincoln on Celebrity cars blog, and if the American celebrities don't like them, how many rich people around the world do you think would want a Cadillac or a Lincoln? Almost nobody, which is why they are not selling them in many countries.

By the way, the girls around me, they all wanted a Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Porsche or a Bentley.

So, in reality, my analysis is "more" than a fact.

@JDMUSMuscle So in your world "significant others" are only women? Men can be the significant others as well. My wife would never buy me a Mercedes. She'd get me a GT350 or a Corvette. There are also same-sex significant others, so to say that "Mercedes is it" when buying for your significant other is ignorant because it depends on who is the significant other.

Damnit, Matt, fine.

Well, if I were to answer that, it's still the same. I mean, mostly the guys I know want BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Lamborghini and Ferrari.

I mean, let's not just talk about the U.S., shall we. We should look at it on a global scale as well.

JDMUSMuscle: Totally right. Not sure why but Mercedes is perceived as one of the most luxurious cars even over the other Germans Including Porsche that everyone see it more like an sport than a luxury car (even when can not deny is also a luxury car) ...
