Now the Fit is hard to find

An earlier blog noticed that the waiting list for hybrids is getting shorter in some regions. But with the growing popularity of subcompact vehicles in times of high gas prices, those vehicles are now scarce on dealer lots, at least in Columbus, Ohio.

Dealers there report demand is very high for the Honda Fit, which is not built in any of Honda's five North American assembly plants. Honda had targeted sales of up to 60,000 units but recently lowered expectations to 40,000 simply because they can't import enough vehicles. A new plant being built in Indiana could start producing vehicles in 2008.

The Fit gets lower gas mileage than a Civic but is priced more economically and appeals to budget-minded shoppers.

i like the fit (jazz in europe). it's cute, it's clever, and it handles quite well.
but our biggest engine is a 1.4, do you get a 1.5 or something? i read that somewhere.

I'm pretty sure we get the 1.7 from the Civic, but that's just a guess.

The FIT(CITY in Asia)in the US gets the i-VTEC 1.5L engine. The new CIVICs are 1.8L.

Fits are popping up all over my city (St.Louis) and Ive noticed most of them are the color red weirdly.

I’ve driven it once when I visited Singapore for business trip and I loved it! I didn’t expect the interior to be that spacious for such a compact car. For such a small engine (I believe it was called I-DSI, that has two sparkplugs on each cylinder) the acceleration was sufficient enough to carry two adults with two golf bags on the back. The gas mileage was quite amazing, I managed to get 17 KM for every litre gas I put in (anyone knows how to convert that to mileage?). I guess I might ponder to get one here for work commute.
