If The President Called On You To Fix The Current Recall System How Would You Do It?

A "recall is a recall" under current federal safety regulations. Have a peeling safety label? That's a recall. Have a potentially fatal defect? That's a recall.

There are no official processes to warn consumers of the severity of a potential problem with their car or truck in the U.S.

In the midst of a record year of recalls that has Washington, D.C., watching the automotive industry more than any other time since the 2009 bailout, some believe it is the right time to reform the nation's recall system under the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. But there's no agreement on exactly how to do it.

I would tell him to write executive orders that on damage law suits that plaintives could only recover actual expenses, attorney fees excluded. I'd do another executive order outlawing the class action lawsuits. I would exclude all cars older than 10 years or 100K miles.

Well there is that too. I'd guess if he got your name it would be more evidence of his NSA snooping.

First thing is to hold those responsible accountable. To many executives want to cut cost and when a problem is found they just walk away. Put these clowns in jail. They have stole from the company and defrauded the stock holders and consumers

No. The first thing is to prevent lawyers from lining their pockets. Class-action lawsuits and the awarding of punitive damages is pure money grabbing. Yes, within a company, if there is evidence of wrongdoing (i.e. where the act was conscious and purposeful) then arrests should be made. BUT, situations like the Takata airbag scandal also brings with with greedy consumers who play the victim and demand money. Consumers are very capable of being naked opportunists.

The best recall system would be one that would allow us to recall this excuse for a President. That would be my response.

He did call and I told him that his honor and integrity are non existent...then it escalated into name calling and he hung up. We never got to the recall thing
