RENDERED SPECULATION: BMW's All-New, Next-Gen 7-Series Comes Into Focus
Over the past several months we've been keeping an eye on the development of the BMW 7-Series. While the 7-Series used to be the driver's choice when it came to large luxury sedans, the marketplace has changed due to the introduction of cars like the Maserati Quattroporte and Porsche Panamera.

And then there are the large luxury sport-utility vehicles that have been nibbling away market share.

Whatever the case, I think I've made it clear for approximately one year now that the company needs to bring its "A" game with the all-new 7. Especially since the Audi A8 is a stellar product and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is essentially killing it. There may just be one issue though.

Simply put, from what we've seen of the BMW development cars, the all-new 7 is looking rather plain. Since BMW displayed cars like the Vision Future Luxury, we were anticipating the Bavarians to create something revolutionary, not evolutionary. After all, the current-gen product was largely inspired by the treacherous E65.

Although the initial speculation-filled renderings were a bit bold and a little bananas, now they've settled down for a more realistic look. You can see that reflected in the latest renders coming to us from abroad.

Looks like they're just gonna tweak the headlights and insert a show car interior that will never actually make it to production.

Yes and it appears BMW has a product cycle issue. While the C and E are modeled after the S, it appears the 7 is influenced by the 3, thats no good in the luxury world.

Build the top and allow it to trickle down to lower classes not bottom up, allowing the 3 series to influence the line....

It's not unattractive, but it looks like the current one and nothing like the gorgeous sedan concept they showed. So--if the render is accurate--with big German sedans, the choice will be between gaudy-bling tasteless (S Class) or boring (7 Series / A8). The concept promised excellence. This render promises laziness.

I agree, MDarringer. If the 7-Series production model looks at all like the renderings (which is to say very similar to the current 7-series), the Mercedes-Benz S-Class will continue to dominate the class globally by miles even with its gaudy/bling-focused design.

I also agree. S-Class rules at this level and BMW seems to be OK with that.

Meanwhile, A8 and LS can't just compare.

Sadly, BMW's new design language makes the 7er appear like a 3er or 2er.

In and of itself, this rendering is actually very handsome with nice clean and aggressive (for this size) lines. Though the LED driving lights look horrid. However, in the presence of the S-Class and its own 6 Series Gran Coupe, it's very conservative and too closely aligned to the outgoing model.
And we've seen the spy shots of the interior which looks nothing like any concept drawing.
