CAR WARS! Porsche Edition: MINT Condition 964 3.6 Turbo vs. All-New 991 Turbo

CAR WARS! Porsche Edition: MINT Condition 964 3.6 Turbo vs. All-New 991 Turbo
As many of you know by now, I am located in the New York Tri-State area, to be more specific New Jersey. And like any area with a concentrated amount of wealth, there's unique independent dealers. I always try to keep an eye on inventory as unique vehicles come in.

One such dealer had a particularly special vehicle come into its inventory last month. Though I have no idea if it's still around, I was stunned by its price.

It was a 1994 911 Turbo — a 964 model — with the 3.6-liter motor with a gorgeous "paint to sample" Slate Gray color. The asking price? $189,888.

To put this in perspective, an all-new 991 Turbo has a base price of $151,100, which leaves some room to make it your own via Porsche's a la carte options.

So, IF it were YOUR $$$, what would it be? The 964 or the 991?

1994 Porsche 3.6 Turbo in Paint to Sample Slate Grey available now for $189,888 only at TopGear Imports. We have 8 of them in various colors. #porsche #turbo #carrera #carsandcoffee #carporn #exotic #ferrari #lambo #930turbo #911turbo #picoftheday #photooftheday #sexy

Really? $190K for a 10 y.o. car from a NJ "independent dealer"? You'd be braver than me. You following the story about another independent dealer in NJ (Emporio Motors in Ramsey)?

welcome to 2015 people. Air cooled 911s have been shooting up in value for the past few years and the 964 turbo is an en vogue collectible now. A friend of mine just bought one. They're solid cars to drive, but that's not why there going up in value. The above-comparison with a new turbo is really silly. I have a 991 911 with latch child seat anchors in the back seat. It gets 30 mpg on the highway cruising, shuts off at a stop automatically, has bluetooth audio and you can put a bike or ski rack on it if you choose. Its a car that can easily be used daily. The old widow maker turbo is a a garage queen. I think its cool to collect cars, but your kidding yourself if you think a car that has averaged 1500 miles a year for decades hasn't fallen victim to rot and deterioration from underuse. People love old 911s because new cars are boring. The most exciting thing I've seen is the i8, a modern electric car that apparently has a soul and is fun to drive. Way to go bimmer! Some redemption for decades of diluting the ultimate driving machines.
