#CES: #NextGenVolt REVEALED! Has 2015's Biggest DISAPPOINTMENT Arrived Early?
WHOA! Didn't see that coming. Although we thought General Motors' Chevrolet division would keep the lid on the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt sealed until the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS), it turns out the manufacturer had a different idea.

It decided to use the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas as the FIRST place it would tease the all-new Volt.

The company held a press conference, presumably to talk tech, and unveiled the car only for a few moments. According to people on the scene, the fully uncamouflaged product was draped with a cylindrical white cloth and it was pulled away quickly.

While the tease gives us a first look, we're going to have to wait until next week for MORE images, details and specifications.

One question emerges after getting a quick glimpse:

Is it US or does the 2016 Volt look a bit Acura like? Does anyone see TLX in there? And, if I am not mistaken, there's a beak on the Volt.

(NAIAS) Detroit Auto Show Preview

At a CES press event in Las Vegas this evening, Chevrolet's Tim Mahoney showed the next-generation Volt, which will be officially launching at Detroit's North American International Auto Show next week.

The redesigned Volt is a huge deal for General Motors: it's the first rethinking of the company's "extended-range electric" drivetrain since the debut of the original Volt in concept form in 2007. (Former GM CEO Rick Wagoner himself rolled onto stage in a Volt at a CES keynote in 2008.) The production first-generation Volt was met with mixed reviews — it can only go a few dozen miles on electric before switching to gas, has finicky electronics, and doesn't look nearly as good as the concept did — but still represents a huge, ongoing bet for GM on the future of gas and electric. Since the Volt's launch, an additional vehicle — Cadillac's ELR — has adopted the so-called Voltec drivetrain...

The new Chevy Volt is here! And now it looks more like a Honda Civic-wannabe!

I already know that the U.S. is a big Japanese-wannabe country, but really?

The front and side are nothing special, but it's at least not Aztek ugly like the current one. I agree with the Honda statements it looks like an Insight pulled from a Civic.

The brand department at GM must be in total chaos. Every week we get a hideous new grille and headlight design from this defunct company. It's as if they are trying and failing with every new model.

Just amazing that a car which was originally promised to be "electric" now sports two giant grilles for its hot, air-breathing front engine.

FAIL.

The lower grille looks a bit too flashy for my taste. There's too little light and angle to judge the car anymore than the spyshots already on the internet. I hope they reveal the VOLT crossover at Detroit as well - in the absence of high end style that would at least have the space that I could use.

lol...'flashy' and 'giant' are hardly adjectives I would use to describe what are basically two little slots at the lower front end of this vehicle. They are trying to keep the design as mainstream and conservative as positive...no weird 'Buzz Lightyear' futuristic look...just a mainstream automobile which has the added 'electric' advantage.

The original one looks better. It's pretty hard to find another car as ugly as this. This actually makes the Toyota Mirai look less appalling

I doubt the lower grill will be chrome in most of the cars
However - one must remember that MOST people do not look up at the underneath of the front end of a car on a platform in real life as well.
Most cars are seen from a standing point or from a view from another car.

While that does not make it good - I prefer to wait until we can see the whole car - from front to back - to make a decision on how it looks.

Yeah you can have low drag without having the car look like a Civic/Acura mashup. They spent a lot of time on a design that ended up very vanilla.
