BMW Might Be Planning To Rain On Maybach's Parade With 9-Series Flagship

BMW is believed to plan a rival for the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, which will come in the shape of the 9-Series flagship sedan.

The BMW 9-Series has been rumored for quite some time now and it seems that with each passing year, the model is getting closer and closer to the production line. According to a recent report, published by the guys from BMW Blog, the model in question is believed to come out in 2017, if it will be indeed green-ligthed. Our source is stating that the new 9-Series will stand above the current 7-Series and it will become a rival for the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class.

The upcoming BMW 9-Series will be longer than the current flagship and it will also get a longer wheelbase. The total length of the car will be approximately 5,500 mm, and it will be aimed, obviously, towards the newly unveiled Mercedes-Maybach S-Class. This might not seem like the right thing to do because BMW already has Rolls-Royce, which is producing the Ghost and also the Phantom, but a new flagship model might increase the value of the brand.

I applaud BMW's efforts but perhaps they should try to come up with a worthy rival to the standard S Class first...

Hyundai called. They want their tail lights back.

While I applaud BMW's ambition to up the ante, and create a vehicle between the current BMW top end and Rolls Royce (or Bentley), my thinking is that Art Nouveau styling or Asian Organic styling isn't what this segment is looking for.

I guess that kind of explains the weak design language on the new 7 series.

I mean, Audi is introducing A9, the flagship coupe that will go up against Mercedes S coupe.

So I would not be surprised if BMW indeed makes 9 series.

I mean, Volkswagen already has Bentley, Porsche and Audi, but Audi is still not afraid to go all the way to 9.

My sentiment is similar to Car4Life, demonstrate the 7 can rival the S first.

If it's anything like the current design language, it'll look like the 2 which looks like the 3 which looks like the 4 which looks like the 5 which looks like the 6 which looks like the 7.

Thank god the 8 series has nothing to do with the current line up. And, even if the Bangle design was shite sometimes, at least he ensured variety across the board.
