Toyota Doubling Down On Scion With New Sedan - But Hasn't That Ship Already Sailed?

Toyota Motor Corp.’s struggling Scion brand will add a sedan to its lineup for the first time as it battles slumping U.S. sales.

The sedan will be introduced in April at the New York auto show along with the all-new Scion iM five-door hatchback, the brand said in a statement today. Scion also said iM would be the official name for the production version of the iM Concept car shown at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.

They are trotting out an old Euro Toyota as the new Scion and now they are doing a Corolla??? What is the point.

If the Scion iM were coming ONLY as a GTI bruiser than I could forgive the brand engineering.

A revitalized Scion should have been:

a new MR2 as the iR

A crossovercoupe based on the RAV4 called the iX

reskinned FRS with a Toyota engine called the iF

an A segment hatchback with doses of Japanese Kei car quirk called the iT would have rounded it out

Scion should have no price leaders.

Scion should be sporty and trendy.

Should sell well as a Matrix replacement.
