For the past 12 to 18 months there's been a significant surge in the chatter regarding autonomous vehicles.

For some this is a very exciting development that's been essentially a dream come true. This is like the Jetsons, but real. For others, this is one of the most depressing developments to come from the automotive world. Enthusiasts like to drive. Hell, for me it's like therapy.

If you told me this was an 1980's view of cars of the future, I'd believe it.

Mercedes always comes up with strange concept arts.

But their real cars always look far better, and that's how things should be.

Depressing. I have no wish to turn over control of my vehicle to an autonomous system. I'd get more naps but... I'll get plenty of sleep when I croak. Would like to have fun while I'm here and driving is one of those pleasures.
