EXPOSED: Is THIS The Mid Engine Corvette You Have Been Waiting For?

Behold, mid-engine Corvette fans: The car you’ve waited patiently for Chevrolet to build has finally evolved beyond titillating concepts to the engineering mule revealed here. An 82-second strike by our recon op resulted in 15 frames before security narcs dropped the curtain on this black test car—with its two occupants still inside.

Don’t fret over the pointy-pickup camouflage; more attractive attire will follow. Instead take solace in a cabin hugging the front axle, ample space between the cockpit and the rear wheels for the hot parts, and this Corvette’s crouched and ready attitude.

And the new Corvette is...Australian!

As all the luxury brands Mercedes AMG-GT, BMW I8, Audi R9, Acura w/the return of the NSX, Lexus LS-F, etc...I imagine this car might not be a Corvette, but possibly a Cadillac? It seems every maker is seeking a powerful statement car and might it become a vehicle that every make will need to have to be recognized as a true luxury brand. I'm not talking Niche makes like Rolls or Bentley I'm talking the main players? Ford is looking into a new GT might that become a Lincoln? Nissan when it revamps the GT-R, might it be an Infiniti? Could be... this is a mule not an Australian car JDM that's what's called "camouflage".

And why would you need to put the "camouflage" of a....Holden? Why not uh, Chevy? Or a Caddy?

Better yet, why of all the cars, Holden? That thing is not even available in the U.S., so why would they be "testing" in Australia with the Holden body on it?

My only guess is that the U.S. does not even have the engineering skills to make a mid engine Corvette. So...what does GM do? Ask Holden away!

They did a great job of making Pontiac GTO and such. And frankly, Australia is the new U.S.A.

Hello.... but will Cadillac get a version???

This change will also help the C8 Corvette become a semi-exotic halo model for Chevrolet worldwide, a bit like the NSX for Acura/Honda and the R8 for Audi.

I hope this is not just another engineering exercise! It is certainly doable since the Corvette Daytona Prototypes have been performing well and are sex on wheels:

This could be the car that finally makes me a Corvette owner!

I honestly think it would be better if just, Holden made all Cadillac, Chevy and GMC models. I mean they already make Chevy SS, and Holden practically always made the flagship models of Pontiac.

So, I'm sure they can make a great Australian Corvette.

Or better yet, Holden might as well just buy out GM, Ford and Chrysler. Not trying to troll, but seems like this is the best idea to revive those Big (dumb) 3.

Couldn't agree more. Holden should make all of GM's vehicles. The Monaro can be the Monte Carlo. Base engine 3.6 V6, with an LS on the SS. Make a version for Buick and have the 3.6 Turbo V6 used in the CTS-Vsport and call it the Grand National. Use the Commodore as the Malibu. 2.0 turbo 4 as the base engine, with the 3.6 V6 as an option, and a V8 for the Malibu SS. use the long wheelbase one as the Impala, with the 2.0 turbo 4 for the base engine, optional 3.6 V6 and an LS V8 for the SS (albeit with more power than the Malibu SS V8). Bring the Holden Maloo as the El Camino. Same engines as the Malibu/Impala. A small RWD compact would be a great replacement for the Cruze. (maybe based on the cadillac ATS) a small turbo 4 as a base engine, a larger N/A 4 (2.0) as an option, and the turbo 4 for the Cruz SS. America would flock. And allow the stability control to be completely disabled for those who want to kick the tail out a little.

and a diesel 4 for the cruz and a 3.0 V6 diesel with around 250hp and 425lb/ft torque for the Impala and Malibu.

Making Corvette a premium brand would make amazing sense.

Imagine a 3-tiered line up

Corvette Manta Ray / F/R V6 coupe / roadster / Z06 (6 cyl) (leverage the ATS)
Corvette Stingray / F/R V8 coupe / roadster / Z08 (8 cyl)
Corvette Zora / V8 mid-engined coupe / roadster / Z0S (supercharged)

Corvette as a brand should be in stand-alone Cadillac/Corvette dealers

I have been waiting for a mid engine Vette since 1968.

I hope they keep the bodywork just like it is . . . best looking Vette EVER.

I agree. They really should keep that design. That thing looks like a mini pickup truck + Chevrolet SS and it even has a ricer spoiler.

And I think this is really what an American car should look like.
