#NAIAS: Kia Continues Quest To Become Premium After K900 Is Named Urban Car Of The Year
In conjunction with the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), Decisive Magazine named the 2015 Kia K900 sedan as the “2015 Urban Car of the Year” at its 19th Annual Urban Wheel Awards (UWA) ceremony, the “Official Multicultural Event” of NAIAS.  Combining world-class features, premium amenities, and impressive performance – all at a tremendous value – the K900 elevates the Kia brand to new levels of refinement and elegance.

“Since arriving in the U.S. market 20 years ago, the Kia brand has always challenged convention and redefined the notion of what value is,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president of sales and marketing, Kia Motors America (KMA).  “To be recognized by Decisive Magazine and the Urban Wheel Awards jurors for the Urban Car of the Year Award is an indication that our first foray into the premium luxury segment has the right combination of design, craftsmanship, technology – and value – to be a winner.”

UWA juror Les Jackson proclaimed the K900 as having an “understated elegance that speaks of the owner being a savvy, trendy professional.”  Taking practicality and style into account, the UWA panel evaluated dozens of new cars for 2015 in a variety of urban settings to determine the winners in each segment: Urban Car of the Year, Urban Truck of the Year, and Urban Green Vehicle of the Year.

I lived with a K900 for a few months and liked it. It is much more refined than a Kia nameplate would suggest.

The car snobs here will sneer, but Hyundai/Kia is an extremely fast study. The first Genesis was a good aim and the new one is very much in the thick of things.

Once again, though Hyundai/Kia should group their premium vehicles under one, separate brand. You would think that they could see how the Phaeton HASN'T worked badged as a VW. When the Phaeton is marketed as a Bentley it sells just fine.

It would be nice if the Koreans didn't have to hire white guys to design their cars for them.

Not so sure how this Urban awards is helping the K900 "go premium". Granted, last year's winner was the Mercedes CLA, but that's an entry-level product. And the previous year's winner was...wait for it...the Hyundai Veloster.

Oops, correction: Previous year's winners were Mercedes CLA, Cadillac ATS, then Hyundai Veloster.

Car of the Year must be reserved for whoever is willing to give away their cars for free. For those who wanted a BMW but can't afford one over 2 lifetimes.

Didn't realize it was such a slow year.
