BREAKING! Freezing Rain Advisory In New York Tri-State Region — Do NOT Go Out Unless Emergency
Good morning, Spies. If you're looking to get up and at 'em this morning, you may want to check conditions before leaving if you're in the New York Tri-State region. That's because we've been hit with a bout of freezing rain.

Literally, I just watched someone slide backwards down the hill in front of my Bergen County, New Jersey residence. It's not a big hill, maybe five or 10 degrees, tops.

While that may sound bad enough as it is, I turned on my police scanner to hear the latest hubbub going on over the radio. Turns out local firefighters are having significant trouble getting to the firehouse this a.m.

That said, do NOT leave your house if you're in the New York Tri-State region unless you absolutely have to or you've confirmed the conditions are completely clear.

Be safe out there, Spies!

Scary stuff. I'm glad I live where bitter cold it 30-32 and scary cold is 28-30.

Yeah, I've never seen anything like this before.

Everything is a sheet of ice. Pretty nutty.

Sounds like Bergen got it worse than Morris. My driveway was icy, but nowhere near what you are describing.

On the plus side, I backed my cars out of the garage to wash the salt off.

Things seem to finally started turning to slush here. But, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. it was pure ice.

Glad to hear you got the salt off!

My daughter and her boyfriend are volunteer EMTs in NJ. They were asked by their chief if they could help out in NYC with response. There were 600+ accidents in the NYC boroughs and ambulance response was measured in hours in some cases.

Every once in awhile, Nature reminds us how puny we are.

Down here in Texas we call that winter.

Almost every time it is sheet ice
