#NAIAS: Is The Buick Cascada Filling A Hole The Brand Needed To Plug Or Is It DOOMED To The Fate Of The Chrysler Sebring, VW Eos?
One vehicle that made a grand debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) was the all-new Buick Cascada. Essentially a rebranded Opel Cascada — they didn't even both to change the name — it's pretty much exactly what you'd expect from an Opel.

That's not a bad thing, actually. I do like the Buick/Opel Regal.

But aside from whether or not it's a good product, we've got to wonder a very fundamental question: Who's going to buy it and who is the company looking to conquest in the process?

As far as we know, convertible sales have been moving downwards as buyers shift their sights towards making entry-level luxury purchases and snapping up compact sport-utility vehicles. Clearly this isn't a compact SUV and Buick is debatable as a luxury brand.

We've been left thinking if this is something the brand REALLY needed or if there was some other reason why it will be offering a two-door, four passenger 'vert. It's not like previous entrants into this class, like the Chrysler Sebring Convertible and Volkswagen Eos, were runaway hits.

What say YOU, Spies? Is Buick setting itself up for a sales SUCCESS or DOOM by following the footsteps of the Sebring and Eos?

Not really sure who is going to buy this.

I agree. Just like I am not sure as to what kind of a smart person would think America is still a first world country.

This Buick is just ridiculous.

You must live in Detroit or you have never been to a 3rd world country.

Going nowhere with this one.

Agreed. This car kind of represents the current economic situation of America completely.

Enough with the re-badged Opel's Buick! Importing this car is a waste of money & time, both which could be used in numerous ways to shore up the current lineup or add new models to the brand.

"Re-badged Opels".... um seems you're in a closet. The products are being developed for both markets one marketed as an Opel one as a Buick. This is the 2nd model from this program following the Opel Insignia/Buick Regal. Previous models we're to be Saturn's but Saturn is no more. They're not "rebadged" anything's... I suppose the GMC Terrain, originally developed to be a Hummer, is just a rebadged Hummer sold as a GMC... not so.

All your meaninglessness rhetoric in regards to Buick's so-called marketing schemes still doesn't change the actual FACT that Buick has repackaged a 3 year old, outdated Opel model to resell in the U.S. market.

Well it's easier to compete when there isn't much competition. Convertible sales might be somewhat down but there are still buyers and rental car companies always have a couple on the lot.

It is a low cost move that could sell in low numbers and still be worthwhile to GM - the car already being available in Europe.

I disagree that Buick is not a Luxury car brand - though. They are one of the few left. Most of the upper German brands are actually producing sports car - sports sedans - and not real Luxury cars. Buick still has a place with those who are not looking for the fastest - but maybe the quietest and that smoothest ride - which even Cadillac has decided to Abandon.

First of all this is a niche car. Pricing it right will make it sell. Buyers will be 45+"active" seniors who want something stylish to throw their golf clubs in. The EOS failed because it was priced $10K too high. This is a smart move on GM's part but they've taken too long getting the Cascada here.

Especially young at heart widows and retiring professional women. Talk to any VW dealer and they will tell you a lot of EOSs were sold to them. Go through any middle class over 55 community and you'll see a fair number of Sebrings. This car isn't for folks who post on this site.

NO VW dealer sold "a lot" of the Eos @Vette71

Correct! The few they did sell went to those kinds of customers. Definitely a niche market, but there are some customers for rag tops like this.

Let me introduce you to the car you'll be driving when you check the box "convertible" at avis.com

Let me connect the dots to your sneer. Avis renters do a Cascada and have a positive reaction to Buick. This is about attracing customers and it will work.
