2007 Honda Civic Type R : Coming this week - Preliminary specs

All you "Red liners" better start warming up those VTEC engines as on Thursday, the 14th of September, Honda's going to officially unveil the all-new 3door 2007 Civic Type R. Although unfortunately, there're no pictures floating around the net, I managed to get inside info on the preliminary specifications on the car.
Design: As you all probably know, the production version is based on the Civic Type R Concept we saw at this years Geneva Show in March. While the exterior remains virtually identical to the prototype (photos), we still haven't set eyes on the interior. According to my sources though, the Type R will differentiate itself from the base versions thanks to front bucket seats with characteristic red stitch lining and centre logo, two individual rear seats, special sport steering wheel, red illuminated dials on the console etc.

I absolutely love Type R models, really wish they would bring some of them back. The Integra Type R was still one of the most exciting cars I have driven to date.

Highly doubt it, the only R model ever brought here was the Integra, and that was even for a short run. Best we get is the toned down Si models.

do you even get the normal version of this? as in take away the wheels and spoilers, leave the hatch? we do.

The Si has the exact same engine as this. Even though it doesn't have as loud a bodykit, it's still a looker, and is a mini-S2000 of sorts.

Rupert, we don't need a Civic hatch, thank you. The old Si hatch tanked.

America will probably not get this car. The last Civic hatch was a dud here in the states while it sold very well in Europe and Japan. But thats ok because we have the Civic Si coupe. Much better looking IMO.

I found the Civic coupe ugly because of the shape it had, but i gotta say that besides the front, this car is a good upgrade. About, the HP... well try harder

Looks like Honda are continuing a dangerous trend. My friend who drives civics says there is fast growing and serious concerns regarding their safety. He said because of the massively sloped front roof design and lack of any A pillar above head level, deaths from rollovers are starting to pile up. One forum member said it was like standing under a falling grand piano and putting a pillow over your head for protection. He also indicated that Chrysler got smart quickly and recently revised their A pillar designs with the 300c in order to avoid lawsuits from their previous generation cars. It's like he says it looks like it has already been in a rollover where side airbags do nothing and it doesn't take an engineering degree to see this massive flaw.
