Ford Shelby GT350R Shatters the Chevrolet Z/28 Nurburgring Lap Time By OVER 5 Seconds
Word is coming in that the new Ford Shelby GT350R has lapped the Nurburgring in 7:32.19. We all knew this was going to happen sooner or later, and now we’re just waiting for an official announcement from Ford. That’s more than five seconds faster than the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, which did the lap in 7:37.47. The news is hardly that surprising, but Mustang fans will be thrilled nonetheless. Camaro people, well, your redemption will have to come later.

Leapfrogging each other as usual. Basically means if you want to do much bragging you have to buy whatever car when it's early in its generation haha.

Bragging rights for FMC company for now, that's it. Where in NYC (or any big city) can I run my car like they do on these tracks. Is that what is comes down to now.

I think there is a nice loop around Central Park, Central Park west to the hairpin at Broadway, through the roundabout over to 110th... Lap record is... Well you can set the first one in your new Shelby GT350R :)

Chevy will just come out with a Z something or other with confusing letters and numbers that is better, only to be beat by Ford a year later, and so on.

The beauty of capitalism (take some notes President Obama). The idea of who can do it better for less drives innovation and benefits the consumer.

I'd upvote this comment if it not for the *snarky* remark about a pres.

But also these days, building performance for less has seemed to be less of a mission for any brand lately. If they add credible performance for whatever vehicle, that's their excuse to (forcefully) increase the take-home price without much regard to benefiting the consumer.

It's only if the overall package doesn't seem "right" that a lack of consumer demand makes a real difference. See SRT Viper.

Same here. I was never even remotely interested in a Mustang, let alone and American car until this came out. I want one.
