Do The Math: UAW Still Doesn't Understand Why Recalls And Expenses Mean Smaller Profit Sharing Checks

General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. hourly workers likely will receive profit-sharing checks this year that are lower than the record amounts paid last year because of high recall costs and vehicle introductions.

But UAW-represented workers at FCA US LLC, formerly Chrysler Group LLC, could see checks of a similar amount or receive small increases over last year, possibly the highest payment for those workers under the UAW's four-year contract that expires in September.

"I showed up. I want my money."
"I've shown up for several years. I want more money."
"You're a big company. I want more money."
"I don't care about the freakin' economy or how the competition is eating your lunch. I want more money."

I believe this is what the UAW understands. Any questions?

Hey Komrade, "workers" is a socialist term, how about employees. But that's not what the UAW is about, they're about US vs THEM.... Companies are started by people to make products to earn money for the owners and investors. Employees are EXPENSES. If you want more $ go start your own company vs sticking your hand out....If you don't like the company go get a marketable SKILL and find a new line of work. The UAW and all unions are cancer, they only kill the host.

cyberlancer: There are basically 3 kinds of income earners on the planet:

(1) The laborer who works on an hourly or salaried basis. They seek someone to employ them. Their income is essentially limited by the number of hours they can warm a seat or staff a spot on the line. Lawyers and doctors, although wealthier than factory workers, are still in this class.

(2) Entrepreneurs: These folks are ideas people who create new companies and figure out ways to establish multiple income streams and to exploit the power of multipliers. Think of a software author who spends a year creating a product, and then can sell thousands or even millions of copies thereafter with little effort. And while that's selling, they can create a second product and a second stream of income. Entrepreneurs are the people who create the companies that hire The Laborer (class 1).

(3) Investors: These folks are savvy at identifying money-making opportunities, and they generate their income either by investing their own money in these "vehicles", borrowed money, or other people's money.

None of these is "better" or "righter" than the other, but some are much more likely to generate financial wealth than others. All are equally valuable. We need laborers just as we need entrepreneurs, but income is usually tied to one's ability to GENERATE value. Run a company of 10,000 laborers and you'll likely get paid well. Be one of the 10,000 laborers and you likely won't.

Being a laborer, whose income is tied directly to his effort or seniority at an employer, who has a single stream of income, who does not exploit the principle of financial multipliers, is the lowest income earner. That's just a fact, and it frustrates many workers who want to make Entrepreneur-like income while being a laborer.

The take-away I present to you, is that if you want to increase your financial wealth, and you're a laborer (class 1), then the best way to do that is to change your thinking, beliefs, understandings, decisions, perceptions, and actions, and step into being an entrepreneur or investor. There's more money there. Unfortunately for many laborers (e.g., UAW folks), their thinking, beliefs, understandings (etc.) hold them to where they are, while making demands to get more money from their employers. And that's a cycle of frustration. To each their own.
