Chevrolet Claims A Production Corvette Has Cold Cocked Nurburgring In Under 7 Minutes

Bear in mind this has yet to be made official by the folks at GM, but sources are now claiming the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has lapped the Nurburgring in 6:59.13. Supposedly the HD on-board video will be released "soon" to verify the news. The same source also stated the lap was done in a production-spec Z06 equipped with the new fast shifting eight-speed automatic gearbox and wearing the Z07 aerodynamics package.

If confirmed, then the new Corvette Z06 has entered the same sub-7 minute lap time category as the Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari LaFerrari, and McLaren P1 – at a fraction of the price of any of those supercars. We’ll bring you more details the moment we have them.

Sometimes, GM does something amazing, like creating a Ferrari-like performer in an attractive package, at an affordable price, with much lower maintenance and repair costs. That's very significant! Kudos, Chevy!

If that's true, then WOW. Considering the NISMO GT-R, with a special track package, did it in 7:08, that's extremely impressive.

Anyone--outside of a JDM fanboy--who has driven the GTR vs a 911 or the Stingray etc. knows that the GTR is is a fast, numb car, where you can feel the software fixing its deficiencies.

Well, rumor quashed. But Mero should be able to get a pretty epic lap next time they get a chance to go out there. On a side note, this year Koenigsegg is going to try to get two of their cars into the sub-7-min club. The Agera R, I think, and the One:1. Looking forward to that and the Z06 lap.

under 7 secs or not, we all know this car is just incredible for the money. i would like to buy one down the road ( in 10 years and just keep it as a toy )
