When The Mid Engine Corvette Is Announced Would You Be One Of The First To Whip Out The Checkbook?
It’s finally happening. The mid-engined Corvette that Chevrolet has long wanted to do but didn’t because of a lack of money and/or the balls to inflame the passions of Vette enthusiasts. Well, Baby Boomers, the Corvette's biggest fans, won't be around forever and younger generations are more open to change. The global competition is heating to a boiling point; either do something drastic or be left behind.

By 2018, the currently-in-development C8 Corvette will arrive, with the flagship Zora ZR1 to launch first.

If it is a 2nd Corvette model rather than a replacement for the front-engined Corvette then yes. If it is a replacement then the Corvette is dead to me and to most die-hard Corvette enthusiasts.

A mid-engined Corvette replacing the F/R Corvette is as offensive as would be a front engined Porsche 911 replacement to Porsche fans.

The pic is a pretty good looking drawing of a possible car. Matts right, there needs to be at least 2 products. The F/R layout is the DNA of the Corvette and should remain. The Middy is a next level car that will I imagine also have a halo car at Cadillac. As Audi, Mercedes, BMW all have halo sports cars, Cadillac must have one too to be seen as the same level luxury marque. I say Cadillac should get both, the F/R luxury 2 seat convertible (MB-SL) and a Middy.

By far most Stingray drivers don't need the insane power and performance that only a read-mid-engined platform can deliver. Only a few of the Z06 drivers, and I don't know who that is, could feel that the new Z06 needs even MOAR POWER. That said, there's pretty much nowhere for Corvette to go performance-wise unless it goes rear-mid-engined.

I don't need Z06-beating performance right now. For real. I mean... the current Z06 will obliterate almost any race track in the hands of a pro. I am nowhere near pro. So I'm ok with a Z51.

But I am all for Chevrolet to show what it's capable of with a rear-mid-engined platform. As long as Tadge is leading the effort, it is going to kick so much ass.

It's not for the HP, it's all about the balance and handling. The trouble with putting more HP in a mid ship design in getting the heat out. The more HP, the more heat is generated, throw in some turbos and put it all next to the exhaust - - - and you start to have problems. But - - - the balance is sublime when done correctly.

Sure but it's going to have to look a lot better than that rendering.

There was a mid engine Vette prototype in the early 70's looked a lot like what the Fiero was.
I have my doubts if it will very really happen
