STUD or DUD: Does Volkswagen STILL Have IT? Is The 2015 Golf R's INTERIOR Superb Or Meh?
As I noted in my previous thread about the all-new, 2015 Volkswagen Golf R, veedubbers are happy to finally see a Golf producing upwards of 300 horsepower. For generations of .:R products that were underpowered relative to the competition, the battles always shook out to the following result:
The Golf was the "more mature" vehicle to have. Translation: it wasn't as sporting or hard edged as the competition; however, its better transmission and interior materials were what made it more desirable.

But if you've been keeping an eye on VW in recent years, it's painfully obvious the company isn't producing vehicles with the same standard of yore. In the MKIV R32 there were race-inspired seating, specially trimmed floor mats and real brushed aluminum trim. And, the plastics were much more premium.
That said, Agent 001 canvassed the entire interior of the 2015 Golf R to show you the most detailed shots of the all-new VW's cockpit. After you take a look at ALL the photos below, let us know:
is the MKVII Volkswagen Golf R's interior a STUD or a DUD?

The interior is quite appealing to me. Except for the front end, I'm liking the exterior, too. I'm not warm to VW faces, though.

The interior is nice, for a Golf. For a Golf R, it's lacking. Even for a GTI it would be a bit dull.

For me, this is rather lame for a Golf R.
Problem is VW built the MKIV R32 that had the special seats, trimmings and much more. It was brilliant!

New face on the old layout. Everything is in the same place where it was a decade ago, but nicely refreshed. The screen for nav and controls is way too small when the rest of the world is using iPad size screens for this stuff.

Looks great but at more than 2x the base Golf, I wonder whether it's worth it. And a pity they took out the big screen from Europe and put in a smaller one here for us. Seems like the GTI may be the better deal.

I like the steering wheel and main console, but the rest is nothing special at this price. I think the game has moved on and at a least IMHO the Germans are getting a little boring, I am liking some of the English and American alternatives (ok there are none for a hot hatch at the moment). I like the Range/Land Rovers over most of the German SUVs at the moment. Of course they had some rough times with quality but much of that seems to be in the past. Jaguar is promising to have a nice 3 series alternative. On the American side the ATS and CTS are nice alternatives with really special interiors. Wow kind of went off track... I will go with somewhere between Meh and Superb for the new Golf R. Looks well put together but nothing that special.

I loved the old R32 and I bet this new one will be a hoot to drive but it still lacks soul for me
