Ad Meter: STUD or DUD: Is Chevrolet's First Take With The #NextGenVolt Keeping Your Interest Or Is It A SNOOZEFEST?
At this year's 2015 Detroit Auto Show (NAIAS) General Motors made a fuss over the launch of the all-new 2016 Chevrolet Volt. There's just one problem: it didn't make much of a splash.

In our opinion, the Bolt made a much more significant impression, as did the all-new Buick Avenir with its Bentley Flying Spur-inspired looks.

But, unlike those other two products, the 2016 Volt is real and productionalized. It will be seeing the light of day at a dealer near you. So, the show must go on.

The first advertisement for the all-new Volt serves as a chance for the company to familiarize potential buyers with an all-new, green product. As you can see in the clip below there's plenty of glamor shots and interior pans that show the instrument cluster and infotainment system in use. There's even an exterior driving shot that seems to hint this car will be FUN to drive.

That said, I wanted to touch base with the Spies and see if YOU find this spot to be a STUD or DUD in our new Ad Meter series. Let us know if the all-new, 2016 Chevrolet Volt's first campaign left you wanting more or if it's dead on arrival.

Explore the all-new 2016 Volt in motion. Every detail has been carefully considered, from its brilliant design to the unrivaled technology throughout. Which means whether you are navigating your route to work or your next adventure, day or night, electric or gas, you can expect an innovative drive that allows you to travel 1,000 miles between fill-ups, on average.

Did the all-new Bolt overshadow the Volt EVEN IF we have NO idea when it will become real?

I mean... Just some vanilla beauty shots of a CGI Volt with generic electronic music. Pretty sure it's not meant to be a Super Bowl ad. Don't love it or hate it. Indifferent is the word.

I can't see one original line on this thing. Front end is pure Acura. Rear is Civic and Focus. Interior is Ford. Profile is Kia Forte. Come on, GM, you're the same company that gives us the amazing-looking Corvette, the nice looking Camaro, and gave us the previous generation CTS. And some previous cars like the Pontiac Gran Prix, Pontiac Bonneville and even the fastback Fiero. You can do better.

Rear definitely looks Civic, but the thing that really jumps out at me is the cheap quality interior. The door panel shiny hard plastic is hideous and the dashboard shiny plastics looks really bad as well along with the low quality shiny leather. I hate cheap shiny plastic interiors. C'mon Chevy, if all the other brands are doing away with the cheap quality interiors, why can't you? Yes, I know alot of money went into the technology, etc. of the car, but inside is where we sit and and touch everything, and other than the design which is better than the last generation, the quality is a big let down. Look at the glovebox door color next to the dashboard it touches. The color doesn't even match!

It's infinitely more attractive than the previous Aztek oops I mean Volt, but now it looks like a 10 year old Civic.

I don't think so. The previous Volt has a personality, an identity, a theme. This thing is as generic as they come. So is the ad.

All you have to do is compare it to the Kia Soul EV intro ad to get a sense which company likes their car more. I mean if Chevy is marketing the new Volt to an older and more sophisticated audience then why make the car so generic, so bland and, gulp! so cheap looking?

I'll take a chance and run counter to the crowd on this one. At a high level, I've put forth a BIG carbon footprint with sports cars, trucks, multiple homes and endless flying. I believe in global warming and could see this baby lowering my overall guilt level. And I think it looks pretty decent - not luxurious but fashionable.

I would criticize some of the details. The tin foil grille is garish. Same with the interior chrome. I wish both were replaced with some nice carbon fiber. I think the interior looks too dark in all black but they do have some multi color selections and I think that makes it look better. There was criticism leveled at the leather but unless you see it in person, it's hard to really know.

I would love to hear more about the rumored "CrossVolt". I think an electrified vehicle with more utility would be a plus. AWD and a upright storage area for my dogs would be great.
