Mercedes Maintains Lead Over Lexus With A 8.9% Increase In January
Mercedes-Benz today reported a record January sales volume of 24,619, increasing 8.9% from the 22,604 units sold in January 2014. Adding 1,505 units for Sprinter Vans and 492 units at smart, MBUSA achieved its highest January to date with a grand total of 26,616 vehicles, up 9% from a year ago.

"On the heels of record sales in 2014, a best-ever January is the perfect way to kick off the New Year," said Stephen Cannon, president and CEO of MBUSA. "Our product offensive continues in 2015 with the launch of the Mercedes-Maybach S600, a fully redesigned light truck lineup and the hero of our Super Bowl spot this year, the Mercedes-AMG GT S. Stay tuned."

Mercedes-Benz volume leaders in January included the C-, E- and M-Class model lines. The new C-Class took the lead at 6,236, up 8.5% from the 5,748 units sold the same month last year. The E-Class followed with sales of 4,336, while the brand's best-selling sport utility, the M-Class, rounded out the top three with an increase of 11.3% to 3,144. At the high end, sales of the flagship S-Class increased 22.2% from January 2014 to 1,566.

Mercedes-Benz AMG high-performance models sold 790 units in January, while the brand's BlueTEC diesel lineup finished the month at 942.

Separately, Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned (MBCPO) models recorded their best January ever with sales of 9,456, up 13.9% from the 8,305 units sold the same month last year.

Strong sales across the board with the exception of the E Class which is in its last year of the current Gen and oldest in its segment...strong performer nonetheless

just got a glimpse at BMW figures, E Class remains segment leader, C Class may have just outsold the 3 series for January

Again @Cidflekken, 3/4 series... Im talking 3 series versus C Class, so until you know the model breakdown, neither of us know LOL

Also the C class coupe has been all but phased out in prep for the next gen movving less than 500 units a month while the 4 series is said to be moving atleast 1,500 per month, so that puts the C sedan and 3 series at about neck and neck with the C possibly edging it out given its coupe varient accounts for much less of the sales figure than the 4 series does for the 3'er

The C-coupe isn't phased out just yet. Still plenty on the dealer lots that I've seen and the C250, C350 and C63 coupes are all still featured prominently on the website. And Benz is still offering lease deals on the C250 coupe. So may not quite the time to discount it yet since the new coupe probably won't see the light of day for 9 months to a year.

But I understand your point and I do believe the new sedan is making things quite uncomfortable for the 3 Series.
It will be interesting to see what happens when the C RWD sedans become available in the very near future, for a somewhat lower price than the 4Matic models.

Inventory will always vary from dealer to dealer and the C coupe's production was cut by 50% because 1) most inventory like you've observed is sitting on lots and 2) the new C class's sedan demand has taken top priority which is why the plant in Alabama has only added the new C Class and not the c coupe

Those shareholder meetings come in handy trust me

Right so the fact remains that there is pretty good amount of inventory still to be sold. And the new coupe is about a year away from being in production. So, we're still comparing apples to apples at this stage when comparing sales figures. At the same time, if someone truly wanted a coupe with very specific features/options and the lot inventory didn't have it, then you might see an uptick in E-coupe sales or CLA-coupe sales as alternative choices. And based on these numbers I'm not sure that is occurring either.

In either case, I get your point and it will be interesting to see where the C sales go furhter into the year. I think the new coupe will sell much more than the current one since it should be larger and more stylish.

And I'll just add that, if you are correct, and the C sedan did outsell the 3 Series in January, it's probably because BMW already recorded those January closed deals with their December sales numbers ;-)

Well that's a whole other can of worms and I'm trying to give the Bavarian boys the benefit of doubt though it's hard with their over aggressive North American headquarters, that being said

I'll take it back to my original question which no one yet has the answer, did the C class sedan outsell the 3 series? If so this year maybe the most exciting sales year yet and Lexus appears to be running full steam ahead which makes it even more entertaining.

CLA bests A3 again. GLA crushes Q3 again. Surprised (but not surprised) to see S-Class continuing to increase.
