OFFICIAL: Nissan Gives Us A BETTER Look At The 2016 Maxima That Was MISSED During Its Super Bowl Spot
During the big game on Super Bowl Sunday, everyone was looking forward to the commercials. It's the advertising event of the year. However, if you were watching you may have been disappointed.

That's because this year's ads sucked.

2016 Nissan Maxima

That and Nissan's spot that mostly showcased the all-new LMP1 racecar only gave us a glimpse of the 2016 Nissan Maxima.

We kept an eye on social media platforms and pretty much NO ONE except the automotive media even realized what had just happened. In fact, we're pretty sure 99 percent of the viewers of the spot didn't even catch the Maxima that was supposed to be the payoff of the spot. We brought you three screen shots from the commercial but the vehicle's paint job didn't really make the Maxima shine.

The good news is that Nissan has officially released two better high-resolution images to paint a more accurate picture of the all-new Maxima. Check them out, below!

Nissan's press release follows:

All-new 2016 Nissan Maxima sports sedan confirmed as the company's Super Bowl XLIX surprise

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan today announced that its next-generation Maxima sports sedan was the product that made a cameo appearance at the end of its popular "With Dad" Super Bowl XLIX commercial. The 2016 Nissan Maxima, the brand's flagship product and signature "4-Door Sports Car," will make its official world debut at the New York International Auto Show in April.

The Maxima's dramatic styling features Nissan's new design elements – including the V-motion front end and unique "floating" roof – that first appeared on the 2015 Nissan Murano crossover.

Hmmm. I applaud Nissan for not taking the conventional route with this but... Need to see more pictures before I make up my mind.

Inspired by the Mazda 6

I don't know where to start. Front fenders make the front look heavy, like it's going to trip over itself (just like the new Titan). The black line in the C pillar ruins the flow when everyone else is going for the 4 door coupe look. And enough already with the kink in the headlights and tail lights. It does not work and never will. The Maxima could be a great sub luxury car (like the ones back in the early 2000s, but Nissan tries to hard and fails in design.

I agree, while i will always applaud Nissan for taking risk and not following, this next gen Maxima is a mis-step. I have always been a huge fan of the Maxima which I call the poor man's S Class as it offered the best Overall package in its segment.

Then they decided to throw a CVT in it, and it has been downhill since. The Maxima should be the vehicle that preps owners for entry into Infiniti which the rear end actually succeeds in doing, however the rest of the vehicle looks clumsy

Good point about the CVT. Recipe on how to make FWD even worse, Nissan will probably add the drive by wire system from the Q50

Did he just bring up Mazda 6? Um no. The greenhouse looks nothing like the mazda 6's. How do I know? Becauaee the greenhouse of the Maxima doesn't match the side of the ACrua ZDX or 2nd generation Volt's.

Like all sedans these days, there's just so much car between the rear wheel and the C-pillar that it looks a bit chunky and the wheels look small even though they probably aren't. I suppose it's for side-impact safety or something? There's got to be a better way.

In any case it's clear they have a particular set of design elements they are trying to make common across their brand. The floating roof, the weird grill, etc. I think some of the lines on this car are a bit too busy but maybe they'll look better in real life.

Fortunately I haven't achieved a level of boredom that forces me to seek out commercials for 'entertainment'. Few people on this site are happy with any Asian auto design, so the posts by the usual suspects are not surprising. I think this at least looks interesting and not like some German designs that evolve so slowly that it is difficult to tell a current model from the same model from 10 years ago. Giving this vehicle an AWD option, I agree, would be a good idea.

Is it me or do parts of the headlights and taillights looked photoshopped in these press pictures?

The new Maxima could very possibly challenge the BMW I3 for goofiest looking car on the road.

This car is very odd. It has some neat design ideas that seem poorly executed. I think the floating roof could have been kind of cool if the line was parallel to the rear shoulder line or even with a slight rise towards the rear. As it is it makes the car look droopy and weak in this area. The V motion nose is too snubbed or punched in looking to be exciting or good looking. The dual V thing is kind of a cool idea but the way it has been executed is a let down.

sorry Nissan, floating roof is not unique and just looks lame in this execution

The new Maxima...it's what happens when car designers just don't know when to stop.

First of all, I like the design. But unlike most people that likes to be blind, people want to act like those C pillars aren't inspration from the 2011 Kia Optima. Yet if the Optima debuted after this epic Maxima then the Optima would have been the copycat.
