Is this the 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser?

They have been talkin about the new land cruiser for AGES. and yet its 1 of the cars that i personaly hate coz of the brilliant engine :p. 4.7l 270 hp BRILLIANT

4.7-l V8 in a Landcruiser? I would call that USELESS.

If I am out in the desert, RANGE is important. With a 4.7-l V8, you won't make it far. What the Landcruiser needs is a diesel engine option.

In Europe, they've got diesel versions of the Landcruiser I think. If only the brought those over here. Too bad they'd never fly here because the people here have been brainwashed into thinking that SUV's need "300-hp V8 with sub 6 second 0-60 times".

Toyota land cruiser and Nissan patrol are one of the best and most practicle offroaders out there today.
V8 may lack BHP but it's a very torquier engine.

And don't forget there inline sixes,
Land Cruiser's 4.5 I6 and Nissan Patrol's 4.8 I6.
Something like Land Rover's Defender.A V5 Offroader low on BHP and torque but still one of the best in the category.

If u think they r low on BHP,then bring any high end performance SUV like ML 63 AMG,and put it against these OFFroad Kings.And then u will know.

These two japaneese monsters are so balanced that i have also seen them taking rounds on two wheels in a show in DUBAI.
Even how the Arabs play with them in the sand,mostly they land on two tires,after taking a jump,that's how strong the suspensions are.

Which other SUV can do it.

BTW this can't be the new Land cruiser as it's already wearing the 'FAHAS' means Test plate.
And according to Gulf,the test plate should be removed within a week and the Number will be taken from the Police.
It's wearing Fahas means it's already registered in OMAN.

Jugnu, reread my post. I said the V8 engine is USELESS IMO. Big gas-guzzling V8's in SUV's are USELESS IMHO. The same goes for the BMW X5 4.4i / 4.6is and any other SUV. SUV's are workhorses IMO.

That's one reason I don't like luxury SUV's much in V8 form. I prefer a diesel when it comes to these types of cars.

I seriously thought that was an Austrailian market Ford Escape. The front end looks exactly the same. Exactly!

It looks cheaper, smaller and has a cheaper-looking interior (I know it's base spec, but the dash doesn't look as quality) than the current version.

Tell me Tifosi. If you're out in the middle of the desert and have the choice between a V8 Landcruiser and say a Euro 6-cylinder turbodiesel Landcruiser, which would you take?

Let me guess. You'd take the V8 Landcruiser because "of the performance". Well, I don't want to be the dude who informs your family of your pointless death in the Sahara just because you picked the wrong car. What's the point of rocking to 60 in 2.3 seconds in the desert with no one around? The smart choice would be to take the diesel Landcruiser because of the range it provides. "But the V8 Toyota Landcruiser is so much faster!!!" - Eh, you won't be able to drive top speed anyway in the desert. The conditions won't really permit it.

You want performance in your SUV? I don't. I want fuel economy. Performance in an SUV is an oxymoron, to me. Why do I want a big fat pig of a car (aka SUV) with a gas-guzzling V8 that needs to be fast? I don't. SUV's are workhorses, not performance cars.

Both the V8 and diesel Landcruiser have the exact same offroad performance. However, I'd never consider the V8 Landcruiser. I am no friend to SUV's, but given the choice, I'd take a diesel SUV anyday over their gasoline counterpart.

Do I flame the engine? YES.

Is that an attack against your beloved Toyota? Hell no. I was merely stating my opinion that a V8 in a Landcruiser (and ANY SUV for that matter) is pointless and a waste of resources. Americans have been brainwashed into thinking we need fast gas-guzzling SUV's: we don't.

Pointless as well. I've said it before, a V8 or even a V6 powered SUV is a waste of resources IMHO. Put in a nice torquey diesel and you're better off.

Nice try at making me sound like a hipocrite. I never praised the Audi Q7's upcoming V12 TDI. I said it'll probably be more fuel efficient than a comparable gasoline V12 or even V8, and that's it. The V12 TDI is overdoing it IMO.

It's a diesel, Will. There's a difference.

And how, at all, is the new X5 "hideous"? It's completely inoffensive, and looks like a slightly more agressive version of the current model! The interior is a major improvement! There's really nothing to criticize about it.

Whatever it is...that Land Cruiser reallly needs a replacement. That thing is ancient by now.

Interior looks smaller than the current 100 series. But pictures indicates the controls for ride height and suspension stiffness which is similar to the existing lc. Vehicle in the pics is p[robably a different model. Wildtourer is right about the v8 twin turbo diesel.

V6's are more acceptable than a V8, but they still get poor fuel economy ratings in an SUV. For me (and this is just me), I prefer a TDI engine in my SUV. ;)
