Texas Dealers Line Up To Sell Tesla - But Musk Firmly Says No

Would Tesla Motors stumble if it sold its high-end electric cars through franchised dealerships like every other car manufacturer must in Texas? Elon Musk, the company’s CEO and a champion of disruptive technologies, seems to think so.

“If we were to go through them, we would fail,” he told Texas Tribune CEO and Editor-in-Chief Evan Smith last month during an interview at the Texas Transportation Forum.

I'm glad to see someone standing up to the dealership mafia. There are still legitimate ways of getting a Tesla in Texas (I have 8 co-workers who have them), so they're still selling here. We need someone to start pushing back.

You don't go into a grocery store and negotiate prices. There's no law that says a dealer must haggle over a price. It's simply something that we expect because it's been done for so long.

A monopoly would be one source for any sort of car. Tesla is not a monopoly, because you can go elsewhere to buy a car. Not a Tesla, true. But it's not that you can't buy something else. Look at some of your home utilities. those are monopolies, because you can't get the same service from anyone else.

nest time some Texas Republican say they are for the 'free market" just point to Tesla, walk right up to their face about 2 niches away, and laugh right in it. These hypocrites are all for the "free market" when it suits their own pocket. Texas car dealership Association gives heavily to Republican political candidates. Guess why these politicians enforce a car dealership monopoly on new car sales? Can you guess? $$$
