Toyota Earns Four Times More Profit On Every Car Sold Than Detroit Automakers Do

Despite the boom in the U.S. automotive industry, Toyota Motor Corp. earns more in a year than Detroit's Big Three automakers combined.

That doesn't tell the full story: When average earnings per vehicle are calculated, the Japanese automaker makes more than four times per car than General Motors Co.

Detroit auto companies are arguably the healthiest they've been in decades. GM, Ford Motor Co. and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV are profitable, adding jobs and creating the most advanced cars in history.

The funny thing is, Toyota makes far better & reliable cars than those Big Dumb 3 can ever dream to.

So it is obvious Toyota deserves to earn more.

Funny thing is that the reliability gap between Toyota and Ford is nil, but VW--that wants to dethrone Toyota for volume--produces pure piles of dung.

I usually check Edmunds Consumer Reviews and I don't see a single reliable Ford that gets good comments.

But the opposite is true for the Japanese.

And I don't know why you bring up VW, when the brands that VW owns are practically some of the best luxury brands in the entire planet, something America's Big 3 can't even dream to build.

It's because Toyota is smart and have sound strategies. They don't spend stupid R&D money on trying to win a dumb HP war only to sell a handful of cars that already have low margins BEFORE the discount/cash back. They do things like build a uber reliable and fairly powerfull 3.5L V6 that can be tuned from 268hp to 305hp and stand the test of time with incremental improvements. They share platforms effectively and are reliable. But most of all they understand the needs of their customers.

Lets not forget that when you sell more cars than anyone else, you make more money. Volume alone = profitability. Yes, Toyota builds a good car. Perfect, no I do not think so. We are so quick to forget that they had there turn on the hot seat not that long ago with transmission issues and the sudden acceleration issues of the prius. But why do we still slam the big three? They are right now all building the best products they have in decades. Look at consumers reports. In fact, the quality gap is very big anymore. Then there is VW. Ah, the kings of the first impression. There perceived quality is unparalleled. But particularly the brand that the company is name for; after so many miles; the gremlins run amuck in these cars and with very few exceptions, once they hit that magic mile mark; most former owners do not go back for more. In fact, the cars with the best brand loyalty are Korean, truth be told. For they still offer the best warranty and are GOOD cars. So, who is really building the best car? Toyota just knows how to build at a profit better than most.

One thing for sure is; I'm not to fond of the styling direction Toyota is heading in. The best (worst) example of how bad it can be is the new Mirai Fuel Cell car. If the predator alien was to actually come to earth, we have a car for him. (Or a new friend, for it looks so much like him) Wow is it hideous.
