VW CEO Says Successor Will Most Likely Come From BMW Or Mercedes-Benz
-- Volkswagen Group CEO Martin Winterkorn sees Andreas Renschler and Herbert Diess, hired by VW from rivals Daimler and BMW respectively, among his potential successors, according to German weekly magazine Stern.

"The decision about who will succeed me is not an easy one for the supervisory board," Winterkorn was quoted as saying.

Winterkorn has gradually been preparing VW Group for a change in leadership by shoring up management ranks. Both Renschler and Diess were in the running, Stern said today.

There's a saying: You're never a prophet in your own country.

That line of thinking tells people "someone from the outside is surely better than the best we have."

(PS: I don't know what's best for VW, so I don't know if they have solid hitters internally)

VW needs three things in this order: (1) aggressive attention to quality, reliability, and durability that is sorely lacks now, (2) aggressive price control with a massive move toward value pricing, and (3) aggressive new...gotta have styling.
