Honda CRV Ready To Become The Best Selling Non Pickup In The US

We Americans don't like station wagons or hatchbacks. But jack 'em up, stick high chairs inside, and change their name to "sport utility vehicles," and we'll buy them faster than Garth Brooks concert tickets.

The station wagon is dead, long live the station wagon. Once a popular hatchback version of the common sedan, the wagon has risen from the ashes as a full-blown class of its own: The SUV. So popular have wagons — er, utes — become that sedans are now the endangered species. Go figure.

The compact Honda CR-V sport ute is Exhibit A in this turn of events.

So, did the writer not see the January sales results where the CR-V was bested by both the Camry and Corolla?

Your missing the point. This is not a comparison of all vehicles, it is a comparison of the popularity of station wagons vs. SUVs.

Where are the Camry wagon and Corolla wagons? They don't exist. Because nobody wants them. This is the point.

And how exactly am I "missing the point"? Did you not read the same article and headlines?
The topic of discussion was how the CR-V and its segment has become so popular that it will outsell anything other than pickups, i.e., ALL OTHER CARS. Yes, part of their popularity is that they've supplanted wagons in our market, but, again, the topic was pointed to how the CR-V would outsell anything outside of pickups.

I simply pointed out that TWO CARS outside said CR-V in the month of January, thus, refuting the point the author made based on December sales numbers. (And, in actuality, three CARS outsold the CR-V since the Altima was the top-selling CAR.

Honda is on a roll. The CRV is the top-selling non-truck of any vehicle. The Accord is the best selling private retail sedan (excludes fleet sales). The MDX and RDX are both hot-sellers, and the new Pilot will do very well.

The CRV is not the top-selling non-truck
